Reactions continue to pour in from Hollywood concerning Donald Trump’s re-election as the 47th President of the United States. Jimmy Kimmel is the latest to discuss the election results, and as expected, the talk show host didn’t have great things to say about the President-elect.
Kimmel kicked off his show with a sketch of him packing up his office. “I’m leaving the country,” he declared. “I can’t stay for another four years of this. Who knows what he’s going to do?” The comedian then joked about being on Trump’s list of enemies. Following the sketch, Kimmel began his monologue, saying the choice was between a prosecutor and a criminal, and America “chose the criminal.” After mocking Trump’s claim that the 2020 election was rigged, the comedian compared Trump to Emperor Palpatine in Star Wars.
“Donald Trump is like the emperor from ‘Star Wars.’ He’s old, he’s evil, and he keeps coming back with no reasonable explanation whatsoever.”
Unfortunately, the jokes weren’t enough to hide Kimmel’s displeasure about Trump’s win. He admitted he felt “no joy,” adding that his children “were very upset” by the results. While fighting back tears, the television host spoke about Tuesday being a “terrible night, “ saying:
“It was a terrible night for women, for children, for the hundreds of thousands of hardworking immigrants who make this country go, for health care, for our climate, for science, for journalism, for justice, for free speech.”
Disappointed Jimmy Kimmel Sees Silver Lining In Donald Trump’s Re-election
He continued, “It was a terrible night for everyone who voted against him, and guess what? It was a bad night for everyone who voted for him, too. You just don’t realize it yet.” Kimmel, however, noted it was a “good night” for Vladimir Putin and billionaires like Elon Musk, who he claims “sold their souls” to Trump.
Despite feeling disappointed, Kimmel revealed he felt comforted because “we’ve been through this once before,” — referring to Trump’s first term. He described the re-election as what the country needs to wake up. The 56-year-old noted that he hopes the convicted politician follows through on his promises to fight inflation and other things. “I hope his next unpredictable act is to reach across the aisle and do something positive,” the TV personality shared. Kimmel added that Trump won’t probably do “productive” things for the nation. However, the silver lining is the Apprentice star can’t run for president again.
For his final message, Kimmel made a request to the incoming president. “My only request to President-elect Trump is that he let me share a prison cell with Taylor Swift,” he joked, adding that he was great at making bracelets. Kimmel, one of the longest-running late-night talk show hosts, has been vocal of his disapproval of Trump since his first term. In the weeks leading to the elections, he endorsed Kamala Harris, but that was clearly not enough to get her the winning votes.
