The 2024 United States Presidential election results have divided the world. Donald Trump emerged victorious, beating Democratic candidate Kamala Harris. In the build-up to the election, which was held on Nov. 5, many celebrities took to social media to campaign for their chosen candidate and encouraged the public to vote, but in the wake of the results, several stars, including Madonna, have voiced their opinions.
Some celebrities have celebrated the win, while others have approached it with deep sadness, frustration, and even anger. Madonna recently took to Instagram to share her thoughts with her 19.8 million followers. She posted two close-up photos of her face and got real in the caption, noting how she woke up thinking, “America hates Women! – Not that I haven’t always felt the wrath of misogyny breathing down my neck.”
She continued to reveal how, after getting out of bed, she hugged her twin daughters Stella and Estere, who were adopted from Malawi (she has six children in total), and she was moved to tears. “Will they be considered Vermin by the government as well?” she questioned. “But it’s not just women that America hates. They straight up hate Freedom. They want lower taxes, but they don’t mind if they live in a Totalitarian government to get them.”
Madonna’s Fans Express Their Anger and Disappointment
Madonna commented on how those who voted for Trump or chose to refrain from voting “showed that many people are OK with a dictatorship to take over. I don’t want my friends that are not naturally born Americans to live in internment camps!! I want my daughters and all of their friends to have agency over their bodies!!” She also questioned how women could vote for Trump and the course of action that could be taken to deal with feelings of disappointment.
She concluded her message with one of hope, writing, “Be prepared to fight for your freedom. Be prepared to fight for your life! I’m not giving up hope. Are you with me?” Of course, discussing politics is always controversial, but having such strong opinions on the topic was bound to create a heated discussion. The reaction to the post has been limited, but the comments that have not been filtered show a very divided fan base.
Some have taken the “Like A Virgin” singer’s points and attempted to counteract them. “My life was better when he was president. Unfortunately, the media & democrats gaslit their followers & have lied to brainwash everyone. It’s horrible what they have done,” a commenter wrote. Others have stated that reading Madonna’s posts has filled them with “sadness.”
Even some longtime fans have disagreed with her thoughts. “Still a fan but I’m not with you on this one. None of the things you fear are going to happen, M,” a commenter shared.
Although many of the reactions have been open to creating a debate and sharing their political views, others have been less engaged, telling the entertainer to “shut up” or noting that she is out of touch. “These posts from millionaire celebrities makes me realise more and more that they don’t live in the real world,” a comment reads.
Do you agree with Madonna, or is she wrong about this one? It seems fans are divided.
