Daniel Craig Is Confirmed To Reprise His Role As 007

After stating he never wanted to do another James Bond after the release of Spectre back in 2015, Daniel Craig confirmed on The Late Show with Steven Colbert that he’s set to star in at least one more film. Although it appears that the actor is set on only starring in one more 007 film, saying: “I think this is it. I just want to go out on a high note and I can’t wait,” there is a possibility that he will be in the next two installments of the spy thriller franchise.

The possibility of two more Bond movies with Daniel Craig first came to light when he was offered $150 million in 2016 to shoot the two back to back. But as Craig had stated to Colbert, “we’ve just been trying to figure things out. I always wanted to, I needed a break.” It’s not that he didn’t want to reprise his role as James Bond, it’s that the job has taken a lot out of him. He needed some time to get his head back on straight; Spectre must have drained him mentally and physically, as, after the movie was released, he stated that, “I’m over it at the moment. We’re done. All I want to do is move on.” He then went on by adding: “If I did another Bond movie, it would only be for the money.”

Making two more movies was an idea not even imaginable by Craig after finishing up with Spectre. But, now that he has had some time to think about it, the idea of returning to the franchise is as tangible to him as one would expect (who wouldn’t love being James Bond?). He loves being a part of the franchise, but the strain that his commitment to the character had had on his life was too much. The break was much needed, and now fans can expect Daniel Craig back and ready for some good ol’ fashion espionage.

Considering he’s thought of by many critics and fans alike to be one of the best on-screen James Bonds over the years, the news that he plans to return for at least one more film is great. Check out a clip from The Late Show with Steven Colbert below with his announcement.

“Yes,” Craig replies smoothly. And the crowd goes wild… With good reason, as the actor has become notorious for his near perfect portrayal of the character. There’s still no confirmation as to how many films Craig will star in, only that he’s set to return for at least one.

The director of Skyfall and Spectre, Sam Mendes, will not be returning to helm the chair for the next installment. It’s unfortunate, but other successful directors, like Christopher Nolan, are being considered to take over where Mendes left off.
