Main Gameplay Overview: Weapons, Monsters, and Everything in Between
Monster Hunter Outlanders is set in a massive land of the Isolaneysa Island, which consist of seamlessly connected forests, swamps, and deserts with dynamic weather. While TiMi Studio is still tight-lipped on the details, Hunters can gather materials not just to build their gear, but also their own home.
The developer may have taken notes from other hunting and mobile games, such as Wild Hearts and Genshin Impact, among others. This time around, the arm Slinger is not the only tool that can help you traverse the Isolaneysa Island. There’s a glider you can use to soar the skies and various wooden siege emplacements to throw you into the air or even attack monsters.
Speaking of monsters, so far, the studio behind Monster Hunter Outlanders has revealed 13 returning monsters, based on gameplay teasers and gear screenshots. We list all currently known monsters in the table below:
- Anjanath (Brute Wyvern)
- Barroth (Brute Wyvern)
- Diablos (Flying Wyvern)
- Great Jagras (Fanged Wyvern)
- Jyuratodus (Leviathan)
- Kulu-Ya-Ku (Bird Wyvern)
- Legiana (Flying Wyvern)
- Odogaron (Fanged Wyvern)
- Paolumu (Flying Wyvern)
- Pukei-Pukei (Bird Wyvern)
- Rathian (Flying Wyvern)
- Rathalos (Flying Wyvern)
- Tobi-Kadachi (Fanged Wyvern)
The monsters in this game seem to come equipped with special abilities as well. As seen in the reveal trailer, the Rathian looks like it’s emitting some kind of a heat source from inside its body. TiMi Studio Producer Dong Huang said that it’s infected by the island’s unique environment and has become mutated. But as the phenomenon is deeply connected to the story, more details will be unveiled later.
In terms of weapons, Monster Hunter Outlanders have showcased five popular ones: Long Sword, Dual Blade, Light Bowgun, Heavy Bowgun, and Lance. The developer team promised that more information about the rest of the nine weapons to follow. Fans are already hoping the game will feature all of them and not dripfeed weapons through major updates like in Monster Hunter Now.
New and Familiar Hunting Companions in Monster Hunter Outlanders
As seen in the picture above, your loyal cat partner Palico will once again accompany you during hunts. However, this time he brought buddies: a monkey-like creature and a bird. They will be essential to give support during hunts and gather items out in the field.
From some of the footage shared, you might be able to have more controls over your Palico and the two other buddies. But for now, it’s just pure speculation and the team is still tight-lipped about it.
Together with the fluffy critters, from the looks of it, players will be able to assign a party with unique characters. According to Huang, these side characters will come with their own specialized weapons, skills, and even backstories. Fighting alongside them ‘with harmony’ will be the key to turn a hunt to your favor. Expect character rotation and exploiting elemental attacks not unlike Genshin Impact and the like.
Nevertheless, for those of you who enjoy playing with friends and strangers alike, not to worry. Capcom and TiMi Studio have confirmed that Monster Hunter Outlanders will support four-player cooperative play.
Packed with never-before-seen gameplay fit for modern mobile game, Monster Hunter Outlanders promises to deliver a fresh ride for Hunters everywhere, anytime. Let’s wait and see if this mobile spin-off can lives up to its expectations.
