Popular singer Ray J has caused quite a stir among netizens after a video of him threatening Pastor Jamal Bryant went viral. The “One Wish” singer recently filmed an interview with Jamal for his podcast, Let’s Be Clear. Over the show’s run, Bryant has interviewed many popular celebrities, including Stacey Abrams and Master P. He hoped to continue his run of high-profile guests with Ray J’s sit-down; however, it looks like that may never see the light of day.
In a viral video, Ray threatened the pastor for conducting an “out of bounds” interview. As the clip started, the singer acknowledged Jamal, saying he had “love” for the speaker. But after that … things went off the rails. Ray eventually explained that somebody would be “getting snatched off the pulpit” if any part of his interview was published. The Love & Hip Hop star continued, saying Jamal’s team didn’t have permission to post any part of their conversation. “Me and Pastor Bryant need to talk because the way I was treated was dirty and illegal,” he added. “I don’t like it.”
As the reality star continued, he seemingly suggested that Jamal’s team disrespected him during his time on set. Although it’s unclear what went down behind the scenes, something intense caused Ray J to have a change of heart. Elsewhere during his rant, Ray explained that people needed to “be respectful” and “do people right.” He added: “Don’t call people out of their name, and don’t make people like they’re not safe in the place where they thought they were safe.”
The Pastor Responds to Ray J’s Threats
Shortly after Ray J threatened Pastor Jamal Bryant, the latter addressed the noise on his Instagram. In the lengthy post, the New Birth Church leader said he was “grateful” to speak with Ray. He continued, praising the artist for the impact he’s had on pop culture. However, he wrote that he was surprised to hear Ray’s “disheartening” threats about him online. According to Jamal, his podcast has always been about “honest dialogue.” Despite this, he planned to edit Ray J’s interview to look out for his “best interest.” He finished, saying that even though Brandy’s brother brought their issue into the public eye, he refused to stoop so low. “I love my brother unconditionally, and I stand on my agreed promise.”
After social media users saw Ray J’s clip, they jumped into the comments to share their opinions.
“Ray J, we didn’t even know about the interview … now we want to see it,” one user wrote. However, the interview seemed to be the least of people’s concerns. Many of the comments about Ray’s shocking statements had to do with the threats he hurled Jamal’s way. “Snatching people out of pulpits? Y’all be letting the clergy collars fool y’all. We’re saved, not soft,” someone commented. Another user felt similarly, saying they don’t “deal with threats.” They continued, saying Ray was nothing more than Brandy’s sibling. A fourth watcher slammed Ray for his out-of-pocket words. “Y’all be running around jumping on these podcasts for clout,” only to change their minds after revealing too much. “This is a new day!”
Ray Apologizes to the Church Community for Behavior
Clearly, after a few days to think, Ray J hopped back online to apologize for threatening Jamal Bryant. In a new video, the Moesha star said he would take “full accountability” for his actions. “I apologize to you and the whole church community!” He continued, saying his behavior might be “unforgivable,” but he wanted people to know he was “sorry” for what he did. He added that he hoped to “pray” with Bryant one day to work their issues out. “Just maybe you can help me moving forward. I’m human, and I made a big mistake with this one.”
Jamal eventually replied to his apology, saying that he would always admire his friend. But although he’s willing to move on, the public might not be so forgiving.
“Asking for prayers after beefing with a pastor is audacity at its finest,” one user commented on The Shade Room’s Instagram. Other users wrote in, too, questioning whether the celeb was doing okay. “Is he having a midlife crisis? It just seems like some of these men start spiraling when they start getting older,” someone posted. “At this point, either he’s sick or just clout chasing,” another person added.
Fans are still waiting to see whether Ray J’s interview with Jamal will be published. Since the singer brought so much attention to it, people will surely be looking for it. And hopefully, he didn’t spill any tea the people didn’t already know. And that’s for his sake.
