The highly-anticipated Jake Paul and Mike Tyson fight took place on Friday. Before their face-off in the ring, “Iron Mike” took a moment to speak to several interviewers, one of whom was a 14-year-old girl. Tyson shared some grim thoughts with the young lady.
‘Iron Mike’ Talks About His Legacy
Mike Tyson’s fight against Jake Paul was nothing short of disappointing for many people who tuned in to watch the event. Viewers wanted to see “Iron Mike” back in his prime. Instead, they saw a 58-year-old former champion lose to a 27-year-old newbie. More than that, it just wasn’t a great fight to watch.
Even before his defeat, Tyson shared a bleak outlook on life and death with one young interviewer. Jazlyn Guerra, 14, asked Tyson what kind of “legacy” he hoped to leave behind.
Not giving it a second thought, Tyson simply said he doesn’t believe in the word legacy. “I think that’s another word for ego. Legacy doesn’t mean nothing. That’s just some word everybody grabbed on to. Someone said that word and everyone grabbed on to that word, now it’s used every five seconds,” he told the young journalist.
He continued, saying, “It means absolutely nothing to me. I’m just passing through. I’m gonna die and it’s gonna be over. Who cares about legacy after that?”
The Jazzys World TV journalist obviously didn’t know what to say. Ahead of the huge Mike Tyson fight, it was shocking to hear him speak like this.
There was an awkward pause before Tyson added, “So I’m gonna die. I want people to think that I’m this, I’m great? No, we’re nothing. We’re just dead.” He continued, “We’re dust. We’re absolutely nothing. Our legacy is nothing.”
Guerra was able to maintain her composure following Tyson’s tough response. She thanked the boxing champion for his words of wisdom ahead of the fight. However, “Iron Mike” wasn’t done there.
“Can you really imagine somebody saying, ‘I want my legacy to be this way?’ You’re dead!” he hammered in on the topic. “Who the f*** cares about me when I’m gone? My kids, maybe, or grandkids?”
Jake Paul & Mike Tyson Fight Was Lackluster At Best
Ahead of the Mike Tyson fight on November 15, the boxing champion was one of the most feared fighters in the 1980s and 1990s. He is probably best known for biting off a chunk of Evander Holyfield’s ear during a boxing match in 1997, which stunned the audience and pay-per-viewers at home.
Seeing Mike Tyson in the ring again was a dream come true for many fans. Unfortunately, he didn’t live up to his old reputation. The fight was lackluster and many people were disappointed in the outcome, suggesting that Jake Paul “rigged” the match so that he’d win.
While there is nothing to prove that’s true, it doesn’t seem the return to the ring or how things played out changed anything about Mike Tyson’s outlook on life. It’s bleak but realistic.
