Beyoncé’s mom, Tina Knowles, recently slammed conservative commentator Candace Ownes on Instagram. Over the last week, rumors have circulated that Kamala Harris paid popular celebrities for their endorsement. In addition to Beyoncé, other major names, including Cardi B and Oprah, were said to have been paid over a million dollars to speak at different rallies.
On Instagram, Tina shared a photo from Candace’s feed that warned her followers she was sharing “false information.” The mother of two shared her feelings in the caption, saying Owens’ original post was nothing but “fake news.” She continued, saying that the rumors about her daughter receiving $10 million from Kamala Harris were not true. “In fact, Beyoncé did not receive a penny for speaking at [VP Harris’] rally.”
“She actually paid for her own flights for her and her team and total glam,” she wrote. The fashion designer said the publications that “lack integrity” are spreading false claims about Beyoncé and are also seeking to discredit the nation’s vice president. “When do the lies and rumors stop? Of course, you won’t see this in the news!”
Tina’s Statement Draws Mixed Reaction From Fans
Once Beyoncé’s mom shared her statement on Instagram, netizens worldwide jumped in to share their thoughts. On @TheNeighborhoodTalk’s social media page, fans seemed skeptical about Tina’s post. Many users wrote that because of Beyoncé’s status as an A-List star, she wouldn’t work for free. Others also commented, asking why the 32x Grammy winner never speaks for herself. “She too grown for her mom to be jumping in all her battles,” someone wrote.
However, the reactions weren’t all bad. Under Mama Tina’s post, the love for the “Single Ladies” singer began to pour in. A few of her followers commented, agreeing with her message. “Real journalism has died,” someone wrote, while another said they never “believe the false narratives.” A third also chimed in, asking why the topic of payment even matters. “Why isn’t [Candace] discussing how [Donald Trump is skipping FBI background checks for his cabinet picks?” someone asked.
And to top it all off, high-profile celebrities wrote in, too. John Legend commented, “Let ’em know, Ms. Tina!” He continued, saying every celebrity there “performed/appeared for free” because they were passionate about moving the country forward.
Other Celebrities Shut Down Rumors Kamala Harris Paid Them
Beyoncé’s mom isn’t the only one to deny rumors that Kamala Harris paid celebs to appear at her rally.
Popular talk show host Oprah Winfrey also denied the rumors earlier this week. During her brief chat with the paparazzi, the megawatt celebrity said the claims were “not true.”
“I was paid nothing. Ever.”
The news came after the Washington Examiner published a story about the Harris campaign and its spending. The records showed a one-million-dollar payout to Harpo Studios, Oprah’s production company, which got people talking. In a comment on Instagram, the O Magazine owner said despite the payment to her business, she did not receive a “dime.” According to her, it all went to her crew members, who helped put on a live show. “The people who worked on that production needed to be paid. And were. End of story.”
In addition to Oprah, rapper Cardi B blasted Candace Owens for asking if Kamala paid her to appear at her rally. “I didn’t get paid a dollar, and that’s on my three!!!” she wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “I actually came out of pocket for glam and travel because it’s somewhere I wanted to be. Like please, girl, you know damn well I’ll argue you down about politics FOR FREE.”
