Beyoncé‘s upcoming NFL performance has excited the BeyHive … and the rest of the world. The global superstar recently dropped an Instagram post alerting her fans that she’d be performing during an upcoming game. The post features the iconic singer standing on a luxury vehicle that is decked out in roses. After the camera pans to her, she lifts her head and later catches a football. She’s in a body-hugging red, white, and blue dress and is sporting a white cowboy hat. Text on the screen read: “CHRISTMAS DAY, HOUSTON TX. HALFTIME SHOW.”
If you weren’t aware, Netflix will be streaming two NFL games on Christmas Day. The first game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Pittsburgh Steelers will kick off at 1 PM EST, while the second match, between the Ravens and Texans, will take place at 4:30 PM EST. The latter is when Beyoncé, who just released her eighth consecutive No. 1 album, will take the stage.
Of course, this isn’t the first time Beyoncé has sung for NFL fans around the globe. As the lead singer of Destiny’s Child, she performed during the Thanksgiving Day game and sang the National Anthem at the Super Bowl in 2004. Years later, she headlined the Super Bowl XLVII halftime show in New Orleans, which is still one of the most talked about and respected shows in the league’s history. According to a press release from Netflix, this year’s performance will be the singer’s “first live performance of songs from genre-bending and record-breaking album Cowboy Carter.”
Fans Are Nervous About Netflix’s Streaming Service
After Beyoncé shared the news about her big day with the NFL, many fans flooded her comments with nothing but love. In addition to regular fans expressing their enjoyment over the news, popular businesses jumped into Bey’s comments, too. The Houston Texan’s official Instagram commented that the night would “be a movie,” while Spotify wrote the 43-year-old is the only thing they want for Christmas this year. @NFL on Instagram also chimed in, simply saying, “SEE YOU ON CHRISTMAS DAY!”
However, several fans seemed reluctant to celebrate too soon. One fan commented under her post, saying, “GIRL, THEY BETTER HAVE THE SERVICE TOGETHER.”
The user’s comment was about Netflix’s streaming hiccup during the highly anticipated Jake Paul versus Mike Tyson fight. During the big event, over 87,000 fans reported issues with the stream to Down Detector. The lag and buffering screens sent fans over the edge, leaving them to express their feelings on X/Twitter. People even joked about the unfortunate mishap, with one writing, “Netflix, y’all gonna have to lower that 13-dollar subscription with all this buffering.”
OG fans of the service and its programs know this isn’t the first time they’ve struggled with live events. In the past, the streaming giant tried to live-stream a Love Is Blind reunion but ran into issues with the technology.
Although some fans are nervous about the company’s ability to stream Bey’s performance live, others aren’t worried at all. “Beyoncé fans will track down every person at Netflix if this stream buffers for even a millisecond,” someone wrote. “Netflix, you have a little over a month to make that stream SPOTLESS,” another said. “There better not be ONE DELAY.”
