Dave Coulier has made it known that he’s not putting up with any hate on the internet amid his cancer diagnosis. On Tuesday, John Stamos made a heartfelt post about his Full House co-star. However, it was met with serious backlash from fans. Coulier is telling everyone to pump the brakes on the hate mail.
John Stamos Receives Backlash After Showing Support
John Stamos took to Instagram on Tuesday to share a selfie alongside his good friend Dave Coulier. In an attempt to show “love and solidarity” Stamos sported a bald cap to support his friend.
Coulier publicly announced that he was diagnosed with stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma diagnosis last week. The diagnosis came as a complete shock to the actor. He went into the doctor because he had a cold that caused his lymph nodes to swell. When the doctor called him back, he was informed he had a very aggressive type of cancer.
When John Stamos posted his selfie alongside his co-star and friend Dave Coulier, not everyone had positive things to say. Many people in the comments were critical of Stamos’ decision not to shave his head to show “solidarity.”
“As someone with brain cancer, I gotta ask… why not just shave the head brother? yours will just grow right back,” one person wrote. Another chimed in, “This isn’t going to land the way you thought it was. Ick.” A third person commented, “You couldn’t sacrifice your hair to support your friend? The vanity is real!”
One person even punched low with a personal note, stating that, “This is why John’s girlfriend cheated on him with Tony Danza years ago.” They continued, saying that “Women want real men” and that Dave [Coulier] probably would have appreciated if he’d actually cut his hair.
Others attacked Stamos, calling the post “pathetic” and “insulting.”
Dave Coulier Defends Stamos Against Critics
Dave Coulier made a separate post, sticking up for his friend and explaining that that’s just how their friendship is.
“I’m sorry to see a bunch of negative comments as I’ve just begun my cancer journey,” Coulier wrote on a black background. “It’s our friendship (me and John) and this is how we are handling a very tough time. I’m a comedian and humor is what drives me. John knows how to cheer me up and I laughed out loud when he arrived wearing a bald cap — being a true loving friend and brother.”
He continued, saying that many people have been inspired by his cancer journey so far. The Full House star also said that his typical reaction (to anything) is to find a way to laugh. “I’m still going to laugh in the face of adversity. When I lost my sister, Sharon, my mother, Arlen, and my niece, Shannon to cancer, we tried to stay positive, and we made each other laugh through the worst of it,” he wrote.
The comedian concluded his post, “I wish nothing but love for all of you.” Comments were swiftly turned off, but there were many people that doubled down on their negative feelings about Uncle Jesse (John Stamos).
“Surely you can understand the objection,” one person commented. “We aren’t jerks.”
Dave Coulier has made it clear he won’t put up with the hate. Instead, he’s using any energy he has to spread awareness and urge others to get checked out at the doctor. Here’s a look at his recent appearance on Today.
