You get a sizable backpack in STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl but that doesn’t mean you can hoard as many weapons as you want without consequences. The game will frequently shower you with broken weapons and it can be a bit of a dilemma deciding what to do with them. Our guide will thus help you decide whether these broken weapons in STALKER 2 are worth the space or should be released to the Zone.
Repair or Sell the Broken Weapons
You can still use broken weapons, by the way. It’s just that they might jam in the middle of a fight or cause some abrupt deaths.
At the moment, the math for broken weapons in STALKER 2 is that they aren’t worth the repair cost from any technician. That’s because repairing them can cost around three times as much as their sell value. Thus, repairing broken weapons you find all over the Zone can quickly drain your Coupons or currency.
It’s not clear whether the developers plan to address this through a balance patch or not, but repairing multiple copies of each gun is not cost-effective.
At the same time, however, selling broken weapons is not exactly an effective way to earn Coupons in STALKER 2.
You can only sell yellow-durability broken weapons, and the red-durability ones are too far gone. Most merchants will not accept them. So unless you can consistently loot a stream of yellow-tier broken weapons, you can forget about making a profit off of them.
What to Do with Broken Weapons
The best practice I find is to simply ignore them or unload their bullets. Carrying them around is not ideal for your stamina and mobility, especially with the limited carrying capacity. Moreover, the game wants you to walk around too much, so it can be bothersome being encumbered all the time.
You want to stick to four weapons in your bag at most. I recommend one of each of the following weapons so you don’t need to decide whether to pick up a broken weapon or not:
- A weapon with full-auto firing mode (AK, MP)
- A scoped weapon
- A shotgun
- A silenced pistol
That’s it; just carry one weapon of each type, and don’t worry about looting broken weapons from enemies (unless they look more advanced than the one you’re wielding). Just swap around whatever you’ve holstered depending on the situation.
This way, you can also keep the repair cost for the following weapons low or manageable. As for repairing the weapons you use, don’t repair them until their durability turns red. That’s usually when they start jamming.
