Ariana Grande‘s boyfriend, Ethan Slater, took a tumble in London recently. After attending the UK premiere of Jon M. Chu’s Wicked film adaptation, the Broadway star was seen walking around the city when he accidentally slipped and fell. Since it had been raining, it appeared Slater had lost his footing and almost ended up on the ground. Luckily, he reacted quickly and came out of the incident unharmed.

In a viral clip, Ariana Grande’s boyfriend was captured walking toward a building when he suddenly slipped and fell in the middle of the doorway. The scary moment caught everyone by surprise. While nearby fans gasped in shock, Slater’s security team reacted by offering the actor some help getting up. Thankfully, Slater was okay and was able to regain his balance on his own before collapsing on the soaked ground. He then reassured fans that he was okay by giving them a thumb’s up and smile.
Ethan Slater’s fall has received hundreds of thousands of views across social media. After witnessing the moment, many Wicked fans praised Slater for his quick reaction time. “Omg he caught himself so effortlessly,” one person wrote. “My wrist would’ve snapped in half if I did that maneuver,” another fan said. “I know his heart dropped,” another comment read.
Although most fans reacted to the fall by either complimenting the actor or showing concern for him, others made jokes. One person said that he was “defying gravity,” referencing the iconic song performed by Elphaba in Wicked. Meanwhile, others joked that Ethan Slater’s fall was so Boq-coded. “He is Boq,” a fan wrote. “You can’t deny he was perfectly cast.”

In the Wicked film adaptation, Ethan Slater plays an awkward but loveable Munchkin named Boq. His character attends Shiz University with Cynthia Erivo’s Elphaba and Ariana Grande’s Glinda. Although Boq has a huge crush on Glinda, she has feelings for a handsome prince named Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey). Meanwhile, Elphaba’s younger sister, Nessarose (Marissa Bode), is crushing on Boq.
In real life, Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater are a couple. The two went public with their romance in July 2023. They had begun seeing each other shortly after coming out of long-term relationships with other people. Grande had broken up with her real estate husband, Dalton Gomez. As for Slater, he had split from his wife and high school sweetheart, Lilly Jay.
