It looks like yet another director has stepped down from working on a Star Wars project. The studio released a statement earlier today announcing that Colin Trevorrow is stepping down from directing Star Wars IX. The statement went on to say, “Colin has been a wonderful collaborator throughout the development process but we have all come to the conclusion that our visions for the project differ. We wish Colin the best and will be sharing more information about the film soon.”
However, this is not the first director to leave a Star Wars project due to creative differences. Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Josh Trank have all stepped down from working on their own Star Wars spin-offs in just the last few months. Ron Howard recently took over the Han Solo film from Lord and Miller. As of now, there has been no word on who will be replacing Trevorrow for Star Wars IX.
Star Wars IX was set to release in May of 2019, and it still isn’t clear whether this will change due to losing its director. No fear; we will, obviously, see more from a galaxy far, far away before then. Star Wars: The Last Jedi is set to release this Holiday season on December 15th.
Star Wars news has been coming in like crazy over the past few weeks in preparation for the newest film. Just last week, BB-8’s evil twin was released as a part of Force Friday. BB-9E is speculated to be Kylo Ren’s new sidekick and an “astromech unit of the First Order that keep their starships and machinery operational”. Rumors pertaining to Snoke’s involvement in the next few films also surfaced this week.
