If you are a fan of Alabama Barker, you will know that there is very little she does that does not attract attention. And sometimes, this focus on her is completely unwanted, like when she recently posted a bunch of pictures on Instagram to share a glimpse into her life with her 2 million followers.
As the daughter of Travis Barker and Shanna Moakler, the young star has been in the limelight since childhood, but there has been even more focus on her since her father started dating megafamous Kourtney Kardashian. Alabama has made headlines for everything from her appearance, her taste in music, and the content she posts online, and while she has a thick skin and a way of dealing with trolls, sometimes even the simplest things cause backlash. Take her recent post as an example, which showed her rocking a leopard print bodycon that hugged her curves in all the right ways.
She captioned the post with a nod to Kim Kardashian’s shapewear brand, Skims. It reads: “If you have to choose, then I’m not trying to be involved it ain’t no me and y’all.@skims.” Instead of focusing on Alabama’s appearance, and some fans definitely did think she looked incredible (with reactions like “Girl you looking so gooddd!” and “Ughhh u eat every time”), others scrolled through her pictures and zoomed in on what appears to be two cocktails.
Are People Focusing On The Wrong Thing Here?
Why is this a problem? Well, Alabama was born on Dec. 24, 2005, and later this month, she will celebrate her 19th birthday. That makes her below the legal drinking age of 21 in the United States, which is why people would take issue with her posting beverages that are presumably alcoholic.
But do fans have it all wrong? Some of the reactions include, “Why are you drinking?” and “she’s underage? are you slow or slow.” However, others have come to the reality TV persona’s defense, writing, “y’all must not go to nice restaurants, they got a whole mocktail section.” This is true, and there is no way to know exactly what ingredients were in Alabama’s drinks.
It seems like this is an unnecessary detail to focus on when the post was clearly a celebration of Alabama Barker’s dress and how great she looks in it. Then again, this would not be the first time she has dealt with hate. “I’m not going to sit here & lie and say it’s easy and to keep pushing,” Alabama wrote in an Instagram Story in October 2023. “It gets very challenging especially when they don’t know you. I feel very misunderstood! People are going to hate regardless … you need not to feed into it, you won’t benefit from it!”
She says it like it is!
