The creator of Netflix’s Daredevil will be writing and directing the X-Force spin off by 20th-Century Fox. As if fans didn’t have enough of a reason to be excited for the movie set around Deadpool and the other misfit X-Men, Drew Goddard’s attachment will surely excite.
The news comes by way of Deadline, who reports that the Academy Award-nominated writer will serve as both writer and director for X-Force. The film will also be produced by Ryan Reynolds, Lauren Shuler, and Simon Kinberg, set to center around a black ops team comprised of dirty mutant warriors that are far more ruthless than their X-Men counterparts
It shouldn’t come as any surprise that 20th Century Fox will attempt to rival Marvels massive cinematic universe, as well as DC’s, which has been on the rise ever since the release of Wonder Woman.
X-Force will be the perfect film to help build the foundation of future films on as well, and it’s all thanks to Deadpool. While Ryan Reynolds and Josh Brolin are locks for Deadpool and Cable, the rest of the roster is unclear.
There are plenty of different rosters that make up the X-Force, meaning there are plenty of different ways the film could go casting wise. Colossus seems to be an obvious choice as well, considering not only his inclusion in Deadpool and the coming sequel, but also how well Stefan Kapicic played the role.
Regardless of the cast, the film will certainly be in good hands with Goddard at the Helm. Alongside his work on Daredevil, he has written Cloverfield and co-written and directed The Cabin in the Woods.
Goddard was also brought on board for some of the script work on Deadpool 2, so he has already had experience working with Reynolds, Brolin, and Kapicic. The director will also be leading another Fox project, Bad Times at the El Royale, which stars Chris Hemsworth and Jeff Bridges.
