Jay-Z and Beyonce are not letting the rape accusations taint a special family moment. Shortly after the Holy Grail rapper was sued alongside Diddy for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl, he made his first public appearance. The power couple put up a united front on Monday night, attending the premiere of Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King with their daughter, Blue Ivy. The movie features Beyonce as the voice of Nala and her eldest daughter as lioness cub Kiara. Hence, it was a huge family moment.
Jay-Z and Beyonce appeared unbothered by the current scandal, flashing big smiles on the red carpet. The ROC nation founder looked super sharp in a brown suit with a white button-up shirt and black tie. The Halo singer opted for a strapless plunging metallic gold gown with a cut-out underneath the chest. The star of the night, however, was Blue Ivy who was making her acting debut. The pre-teen stole the spotlight in a gorgeous gold strapless ballroom gown
The Carters were every bit the supportive parents, with grandmother Tina Knowles also joining them to pose on the red carpet. As seen in a viral video, sweetly cheered their eldest daughter from the side as she posed solo. “Go Blue,” Jay-Z yelled with a huge smile before appearing to wipe a smile from his face. Sources told The NY Post that Beyonce and Jay-Z had no plans of attending the premiere initially. However, after the bombshell lawsuit, they changed their mind.
Jay-Z Slammed For Playing ‘Family Man’ Optics Amid Lawsuit
In a civil suit filed by Texas attorney Tony Buzbee, who is representing 120 of Diddy victims, an anonymous plaintiff accused both rappers of raping and drugging her. She alleged that the assault went down at an after-party for the 2000s MTV Music Awards, with an unnamed female celebrity watching. Jay-Z has since denied the allegations, calling it “heinous” in a scathing statement. He accused Buzbee of a “blackmail attempt,” vowing to take him down, before expressing heartbreak for his family.
“My only heartbreak is for my family. My wife and I will have to sit our children down, one of whom is at the age where her friends will surely see the press and ask questions about the nature of these claims, and explain the cruelty and greed of people. I mourn yet another loss of innocence.”
Unfortunately, his appearance at his daughter’s premiere has done little to nothing to quell the fire. Several fans were appalled by his presence, accusing him of using his Blue’s moment to clean his image.
“Family man optics. Shame shame I know your nameee,” one fan slammed.
“If I were very publicly being sued for the sexual assault of a child, the last thing I would do is attend the premiere of a children’s movie,” a second comment read.
“I hate that you can tell that they’re not okay. Blue and Bey don’t look happy, Jay has that PR face on. It’s a mess,” observed an eagle-eyed fan.
Although the lawsuit is yet to go the trial, the world can already tell that it is going to be a tough journey for Beyonce and Jay-Z as they fight for their legacy.
