Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor took a lot of fans by surprise with just how good it was, boasting a fluid combat system and an interesting story. But it wasn’t perfect, especially the ending, which featured an anti climactic fight scene that centered around QuickTime events. Monolith was well aware of the endings criticism and promised that the climatic fight to end Shadow of War won’t disappoint.

During PAX West Monolith design director Bob Roberts told Destructoid addressed Shadow of War’s ending, admitting its predecessors had shortcomings.
“I think people will be really happy with this ending,” he said. “Well, maybe they’ll hate it for being too epic.”
Monolith has showcased the epic proportions of Shadow of War throughout multiple trailers so far. We’ve seen new gameplay, a larger world, unique Orc designs and personalities, and of course, the new tower defense.

The new system will likely play a large role in the final battle, as players will be given time to prepare defenses and armies, resulting in the aforementioned epic battles. From the gameplay that’s been showcased surrounding it, there will be a lot more to it than simple button prompts.

Shadow of War

Shadow of War’s improvements to the beloved Nemesis system in the original are sure to add a unique feel to the game as well. Fighting a long standing rival would certainly add a higher stake to the end battle.

There is no doubt that the games main antagonist, the spider known as Shelob, will play an important role as well, whether in her human or spider form.

In reality, anything will be better than the short, anticlimactic battle with Sauron that lacked any form of Shadow of Mordor’s fighting system whatsoever. If anything, it seems that, like a proper game should, each of the new and important features will build to the ending, and will be vital to master in order to beat it.
