Gwen Stefani has been appearing as a coach on The Voice for years. The No Doubt lead singer should have no problem understanding the ins and outs of how the reality singing competition works. However, this week, she was allegedly shaken up during a performance with her finalist, Sydney Sterlace. The pair were set to sing the Cat Stevens classic Wild World, but things took a dramatic turn for the pop star.
According to the U.S. Sun, Gwen Stefani struggled through the performance, which was reportedly pre-recorded to air during the two-night live finale. A source tells the outlet that the singer flubbed her lyrics and looked visibly nervous as she make big on-stage mistakes. At one point, Stefani was allegedly so upset by the situation that she stopped the performance and walked off the stage.
An insider claims that Gwen went backstage and took some time to collect herself. It was reported that she wasn’t clear on all of the lyrics of the song, and was relying on the teleprompter for the words. Things then got so bad that she could no longer carry on. Instead, she calmed herself down and even reportedly “said a prayer” in order to motivate herself to get back out there and resume the performance.
Gwen Stefani Leaves The Stage After Forgetting Lyrics on The Voice
“Though it was relatively low-stakes given it’s pre-recorded, Gwen was very on edge and shaky at first,” the source stated. “She looked really, really nervous before performing which most likely led to the mistake. She was able to recover well though.”
The crew was said to have to reset the stage and lighting due to Stefani’s mistake. When she returned to the stage, she reportedly apologized for the flub. Shen then went on to deliver the performance alongside her mentee.
Gwen’s tense stage moment comes after weeks of being criticized in the media and by fans. The singer has taken a lot of heat for her changing look in recent weeks. Many believe that she’s had plastic surgery done, as her wrinkle-free face is baffling. Others have slammed her style as well.
In addition to the online critics, Stefani’s latest album underperformed. She’s also reportedly been trying to whip her husband, country singer Blake Shelton, into shape. It may be a stressful time in the singer’s life. However, her on-stage miscue just proves that she’s relatable and human.
Thankfully, it seems that Gwen Stefani was able to gather her nerves and emotions. She later finished the performance with her finalist. Perhaps she was worried about making the performance a good one in order to help jumpstart the young singer’s career following her time on The Voice. Either way, she certainly raised eyebrows with her panicked behavior.
