The beacon is a familiar and soothing sight in Minecraft, a symbol that all will be okay. Nearby players benefit from its magic, only losing its boons when they venture away. That’s not the only magical object Mojang gave players, however. The conduit offers similar perks but with an aquatic twist: the conduit works underwater. That’s because its blessings are specifically geared toward making undersea life more livable. Your lungs will thank you, even if the local sea turtles don’t. Here’s how to make a conduit in Minecraft.
Minecraft Conduit Guide
The Conduit Effect grants Water Breathing, Night Vision, and Haste, although these only affect players underwater or getting rained on. Just don’t let those enchanted boots of yours walk you too far from the conduit. It has a limited radius, and if you wander beyond it, you’ll no longer benefit from its effects. The conduit will also damage hostile mobs such as Drowned and Guardians within 8 blocks of it. If you need an emergency ally in combat, swing by and let it blast away. Here’s how to make a conduit:
- Get 8x Nautilus Shell and 1x Heart of the Sea
- Place the Heart of the Sea at the center of the crafting grid, surrounded by Nautilus Shells (pictured above)
- Claim your conduit
To activate, a conduit must be in the center of a 3x3x3 volume of water (whether source, flowing, or waterlogged), itself enclosed within an activation frame. Here’s how to construct the frame:
- Construct a 5×5 square with the conduit at the center
- Only prismarine, dark prismarine, brismarine bricks, and sea lantern bricks contribute
- A minimum of 16 blocks are required and produce an effective range of 32 blocks
Once activated, removing any blocks from the frame deactivates the conduit. If you want to avoid any risky shutdowns, leave your work alone once you’ve completed construction. Your friends won’t appreciate suddenly losing their Water Breathing effect mid-dive. Let’s hope Steve is friends with Aquaman.
