Jessica Jones star Krysten Ritter took a question from ComicBook while promoting Sonic the Hedgehog 3. The interviewer mentioned Brad Winderbaum’s statements at the D23 Brazil Fan Expo. Upon learning of his interest in bringing back Jessica Jones, Ritter eagerly stated, “Let’s do it. I’ll be ready.” While one member of Marvel’s Netflix-based Defenders universe is already making a bold comeback, fans are still eager to see Jones on the small screen again.
Krysten Ritter’s last appearance as Jessica Jones was in 2019. Since then, she has played major roles in HBO’s Love & Death and AMC’s Orphan Black: Echoes. She starred in Nightbooks, a lesser-known critical darling kids’ movie on Netflix. Most recently, she’ll appear in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3, leading a lot of people to assume she’d play Amy for some reason.
Krysten Ritter Wants to Bring Jessica Jones Out Of Retirement
Brad Winderbaum is the Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation at Marvel Studios. He really worked his way up into that role, initially serving in an assistant role on the original Iron Man. Winderbaum spoke at a panel during D23 Brazil, where an interviewer asked him about bringing the Defenders stars back to the MCU. The official “Sacred Timeline” recently shifted to allow those programs back into the fold. Winderbaum excitedly proclaimed his interest in bringing Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones back after a five-year hiatus. Just over a month later, Ritter spoke to ComicBook on her press tour for Sonic 3. After she heard Winderbaum’s statements, she responded, “Brad Winderbaum said that? That’s really exciting to hear. Isn’t that the guy who makes the call?” She quickly and excitedly proclaimed her interest, stating, “Come on, Brad! Let’s get it going.”
Jessica Jones came to Netflix in 2015 as part of the streamer’s Defenders universe. Many fans still support it as the apex of the MCU franchise. If you’ve paid a lot of attention to the fanbase over the past few years, you’ve only heard them braying for one name. People want Charlie Cox’s Daredevil back. They’ve finally gotten their wish in the full-fledged sequel series they’ve long desired. Daredevil: Born Again will bring Matt Murdock back to the height of his power, complete with Vincent D’Onofrio’s beloved Kingpin. I was as excited to see Matt back as anyone, but I also find myself wondering where the fervor for his teammates lies. Jessica Jones and Luke Cage were two of the most mature and compelling Marvel shows ever made. Finally, with Krysten Ritter’s recent statement, we’re hearing calls for Jessica Jones again.
I don’t know how likely we are to see something along the lines of Daredevil: Born Again for Jessica Jones. The addition of Deadpool & Wolverine showed us that Disney is willing to take the MCU into R-rated territory. Daredevil might give us a bit more hope. Jessica Jones is one of the most entertaining shows in the franchise, and Krysten Ritter is right to call for a return to form.
