Late last month, Switch owners received a welcome surprise announcement at PAX West – a cult favorite series called No More Heroes, which debuted on the Wii, would be getting a new installment on the Switch. Travis Strikes Again will be the third outing for the laser katana-wielding super nerd, and as fans saw in the trailer, he’s sporting a sweet new look.
Travis Strikes Again‘s director, Goichi Suda, later shared a few details regarding the No More Heroes universe. This new installment in the series does indeed take place after the second game – seven years later, in fact. However, a sequel wasn’t the intention. “It’s definitely related to the previous titles, not necessarily a direct sequel,” Suda explains, “It’s in the same timeline, same world and everything, but it’s sort of in between like a sequel and a spin-off type thing.”
Being most notable for the use of motion controls on the Wii platform, a return on the Switch would be expected to bring with it a few adjustments. However, thanks to the system’s versatility, Suda was able to confirm that Travis Strikes Again will be playable using a single Joycon. The decision to develop for the Switch was something that just felt right. “I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to check out the console before most people even heard of it… So as I was sitting there like, you know, watching these guys explain this thing called the NX, I decided I’m going to bring Travis back on this… It was like a bunch of puzzle pieces came together and made the full picture.”
Travis Strikes Again is set to release sometime later this year. For all of your Travis Strikes Again and Nintendo Switch news, make sure to keep an eye on The Nerd Stash!
