The circumstances surrounding Ethan Slater and Ariana Grande’s relationship have not been ideal, and both stars have faced intense criticism for getting together so soon after the end of their respective marriages. Some may dispute the timeline of events, but Slater’s ex-wife, Lilly Jay, who was newly postpartum when her marriage ended, has been clear that the breakup was one filled with utter heartbreak and disbelief.
It’s for this reason that many fans find it challenging to ship Slater and Grande’s romance, and it could also be one of the reasons he has chosen to limit the comments on his Instagram account, where he currently has 217,000 followers. The Wicked actor is not particularly active on social media but recently shared a bunch of pictures of himself from a photo shoot for Schon Magazine. There are very few comments on the post, and it is clear they have been limited, but Grande did share her thoughts (which also gives us a glimpse into their relationship).
In her first comment, she shared a heart emoji, and in the second, she showed her support for her boyfriend, writing, “the Buster Keaton of today!” Her comment references the late actor and comedian Buster Keaton, who died in 1966. He is credited for his work on silent films, and some of his credits include The General, Sherlock Jr., and The Cameraman.

Do the pair appear to be happy? Yes. Their relationship is also going strong. The couple first made headlines around March 2023 when a source told Daily Mail they were “all over each other” at Michelle Yeoh’s Oscar party. However, they were only reported to have started dating in July 2023 (and both Slater and Grande are believed to have split from their respective partners before this).
However, Lilly Jay recently penned an essay for The Cut, which gave an eye-opening look into the challenges she has experienced since her divorce, which was finalized in September this year.
“In the countless hours I spend rocking my son to sleep, pushing his stroller, marveling at his sweaty little hands grasping a crayon, I work diligently on my private project of accepting the sudden public downfall of my marriage,” Jay shared. “This, I tell myself, is nothing to be ashamed of and nothing to hide.”
She continued, “Slowly but surely, I have come to believe that in the absence of the life I planned with my high-school sweetheart, a lifetime of sweetness is waiting for me and my child.” In the essay, she complimented Slater on his approach to fatherhood and his dedication to co-parenting their son, born in 2022. “While our partnership has changed, our parenthood has not. Both of us fiercely love our son 100 percent of the time, regardless of how our parenting time is divided,” she wrote.
Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater may not have everyone’s approval, but they do have the constant support of each other, as evidenced by Grande’s willingness to hype up her man in his new post.
