Marvel Rivals isnโt exactly running out of interesting Marvel characters to bring into the game, which is why some of the more recent leaks are baffling, to say the least. Earlier in the week, famed and reliable Marvel Rivals leaker, X0XLEAK took to Twitter and revealed the next rumored lineup. One name stands out among themโ and no, itโs not Professor X or Colossus, but Paste Pot Pete.
In hindsight, the rumored next addition is a good mix of recognizable and obscure Marvel names, but Paste Pot Pete makes you question whether X0X_Leaks is joking or not.
Who is Paste Pot Pete?
To save you the trouble of catching up the traditional way on Paste Pot Peteโs embarrassing schtick as a Marvel villain, weโll sum it up for you.
Pete Petruski, also known as Trapster and/or Paste Pot Pete, is another โevil geniusโ scientist who managed to create a super adhesive that made him rich, and instead of being content and living quietly, he decided to loudly ruin everyoneโs lives by turning into a villain (not unlike some of the billionaires and millionaires of today).
Paste Pot Pete even invented a Paste-Gun because subtlety and subtext arenโt his strong suits and this gun is powered by the very adhesive he invented. The gunโs ammunition is often a white giga-glue he squirts at his targets and basically bonds people to objects quite literally. Sometimes Paste Pot Peteโs paste appears yellow, but that doesnโt exactly help erase his parodical impression.
And while Paste Pot Peteโs adhesives have caused trouble for Fantastic Four members, he doesnโt exactly have a winning streak. In fact, he even changed his name to the Trapster to regain some of the dignity from all the defeats, and reminding him of his old name will incite rage.
Why Him?
Of all the interesting Marvel characters, though, an E-list villain who sprays people with sticky white (or yellow) stuff felt like a waste of a character slot, especially when you consider some of the more interesting Fantastic Four villains, such as Doctor Doom. Still, they might be reserving the big bad green guy for later.
At the same time, however, itโs good to see devs being humorous and picking a โbottom-of-the-barrelโ character, even though Paste Pot Pete might not exactly sell as well as someone like the Silver Surfer or again, Doctor Doom. It shows that, perhaps, money and profit arenโt the only motivations in these decisions and that thereโs plenty of room for unconditional passion.
However, letโs not get ahead of ourselves. Until Marvel Rivals officially reveals the next lineup of heroes, Paste Pot Pete as a hero remains a rumor. Still, thereโs a chance that the devs are throwing things at the wall to see what sticks, and Paste Pot Pete might be one of those.
