While most speak fondly of good memories of their past, Elvis Presley’s 35-year-old granddaughter Riley Keough finds her shameful arrest as a teenager an amusing tale. Speaking with Alex Cooper on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Riley recalls how, during her younger days, she was incarcerated for breaking and entering. Luckily, the news didn’t make headlines, but the American Honey actress was grounded for several months, a punishment the late Lisa Marie Presley found suitable for her daughter’s arrest.
The arrest had occurred during a party that Riley and her friends attended within a “house for sale.” She claims she didn’t know that it wasn’t her friend’s home. Eventually, the police arrived and arrested her and around a dozen others, with many of the partygoers successfully escaping the scene. “My mom was pissed,” the Mad Max: Fury Road alum confessed. “This is on you, girl,” Lisa Marie Presley remarked to her daughter.
Riley’s aunt was the one to come pick her up out of jail, and while many would have seen an arrest as a shameful memory, Riley calls it her “edgy moment as a teenager.” During the podcast interview, she smiles and laughs as she recounts the whole tale, exclaiming that she’s “never told anyone this!” However, not everyone is amused with her story.
One user in particular found Riley Keough’s recollection of the event insufferable and went as far as to call out Elvis Presley’s granddaughter as a “privileged Hollywood brat.”
“She sounds so dumb saying she had to call her mom to pick her up from prison! She has never been in prison a day in her life and clearly doesn’t know the different concept between a county jail holding area and a state prison. Whatever clout she was seeking with this story is out of her reach because she just sounds like a privileged Hollywood brat.”
Many followers were also quick to point out that Riley Keough’s claim of her being “picked up in prison” is far from the truth. “Big difference between prison and jail. You can’t get bailed out of prison,” states the top comment, with plenty of others agreeing with a similar response. If Riley really found herself in prison, getting picked up by her aunt would certainly not have been as easy.
Whatever the case, at least Riley’s arrest didn’t have too much of a negative impact on her life. “When you’re used to so much,” she says, “it’s hard to find joy in simple things.” Elvis Presley’s lineage has seen quite its share of tragedies involving drug abuse and suicide, to name a few. So it’s hard to blame Riley for putting on a smiling front, considering all the wild experiences she’s been through. After all, her late mother was married to none other than the King of Pop, Michael Jackson.
“I really want my children to be able to find joy and just playing in the backyard and doing normal kid stuff,” she tells the podcast hostess. A simple and stable life would be a good change after what her family’s gone through. Let’s just hope her kids don’t have the same “edgy moments” as her or her mother.
