Amidst the LA Fires, a Bunch of People Are Caught Releasing Flame Lanterns in South California: ‘Find Another Way To Have a Memorial’

How did you come up with this idea?

We are amid a dangerous and sizeable human contingency due to the LA fires. Many people have lost things, their homes, and the fire also took the lives of many innocent people. Understandably, people want some sort of closure or a way to say goodbye. However, this woman shared in her TikTok how she confronted a group of people about releasing flame lanterns in a location very close to where the California fires are. We know what is happening is painful, but I just don’t understand what these people were thinking.

On TikTok, sahaademusic shared several videos, which the Redditor Parking_Truck1403 reposted on r/TikTokCringe as a compilation. In this post, sahaademusic found people releasing flame lanterns as a memorial on a beach in Carpinteria, California. According to the words of the responsible, it was to say goodbye to the victims of the fires. Yet, sahaademusic focused on the fact that this particular beach was only 100 miles away from the fires and that the lanterns were going toward the mountains instead of going to the sea because of the windy weather. The people at the memorial took the intervention as an offense and were stubborn, saying nothing was wrong with their actions.

This really is a terrible idea. It is hard to believe someone could be this dumb.

Needless to say, these flame lanterns are especially dangerous; just a quick search on the internet is enough to find out.

I looked this up and fire lanterns are extremely flammable and can and will cause fires, the sale of them is banned in 24 states.
And if it’s legal in your state and you decide to do this, at least tether them.

I thought we all knew how dangerous an activity like this is, more so because of the current situation, but apparently not. Still, using fire is not the only way to do something nice for the victims.

Find another way to have a memorial for someone while people’s beds are burning!

Many users believe this video could be of great interest to the police, but at least the woman managed to stop this nonsense. Let’s hope those who participated in this memorial can say goodbye and, in the future, try something that doesn’t involve flammable objects.
