After Dragon Age: The Veilguard Flopped, BioWare Devs are Now ‘Assisting on the Battlefield Franchise’

A new battlefield for BioWare devs

In its rather lackluster fiscal plans for 2025, EA admitted that Dragon Age: The Veilguard missed its mark by almost 50 percent. The game was supposedly EA and BioWare’s biggest release for 2024. But before you get some wayward hopes that BioWare is now focusing on Mass Effect 5, hold that thought because a Dragon Age: The Veilguard dev has been spotted working on Battlefield instead.

Thanks to Tech4Gamers and some eagle-eyed members of the gaming community, we now have a clear picture of what’s happening to EA after Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Harel Eilam, Senior Game Designer at BioWare and someone who previously worked on Dragon Age: The Veilguard as an Economy Game Designer, is now working on the upcoming Battlefield game as a Narrative Designer.

Harel Eilam even updated his LinkedIn account recently. Eilam also credits Electronic Arts’ Rotational Experience Program as to why he’s now “assisting on the Battlefield franchise.” The former Dragon Age: The Veilguard dev will be responsible for the story or dialog for the upcoming Battlefield game, which sounds promising since the previous Battlefield titles don’t exactly have deep or compelling stories.

What This Means for Mass Effect 5 & BioWare

EA’s Rotational Experience Program also falls in line with another BioWare veteran’s explanation as to why BioWare can’t fully focus on Mass Effect 5 yet. Dragon Age Executive Producer Mark Darrah explained on his YouTube channel that some of the BioWare members are scattered all over EA, helping with other projects before they finally move on to the next Mass Effect.

It’s not clear how many BioWare devs are participating in this Rotational Experience Program or how many are currently tied to DICE’s upcoming Battlefield game. However, it could also mean that until Battlefield gets released, Mass Effect 5 will be in a state of semi-pause because BioWare now prefers to commit its full effort to single games.
