One of the greatest Superhero shows of all time is finally receiving an HD collection. The Batman: The Animated Series Blue-ray Collection was announced during the New York Comic Con, celebrating the show’s 25th Anniversary.

Debuting in 1992, Batman: The Animated Series drew acclaim as the best adaptation of a comic book to another medium. During its three year run (1992 to 1995), the show produced 85 episodes, winning four Emmy Awards. A follow-up series, The New Batman Adventures, was released two years later, airing 109 episodes over around two years (1997 to 1999).

While both Batman: The Animated Series and The New Batman Adventures were released as a DVD set in 2008, as Batman: The Complete Animated Series, this will be the first time one of the beloved Batman animated series will be set in HD.

Fans of the series got a taste of what it was like to see this version of The Dark Knight in HD form earlier this July, when the 1993’s Batman: Mask of the Phantasm received a Blu-ray remaster. The animated feature film sprouted from the success of the original show, so its sales likely had an influence on the Batman: TAS Blu-ray collection being made.

While they have all been taken off streaming as of today, each of the series also saw considerable runs on Netflix (with all still available on DVD). Though its certainly not the only reason, these runs could have played a big factor in the DVD collection getting made, with the numbers showing the show was still popular enough with old fans and that it could even pull in new ones.

It’s unclear as to if the set will be in one boxed set, or in volumes like the DVDs. Be sure to keep an eye out for the release date and price point later next year, when it releases in 2018.
