EA might not be planning to release The Sims 5 anytime soon, but it still has a surprise for long-time fans. Based on the 25th-anniversary promo video for the life simulation series, it seems The Sims 1 and 2 could be getting a remaster extremely soon. The Sims’s social media account also teased the announcement by showing the classic ‘plumbob,’ the iconic diamond-thingy, and the interaction wheel from The Sims 2.

EA has been hush-hush about The Sims 1 and 2 remaster, but Kotaku’s source said both games will be released on PC in late January. The games should also come with all of their original expansion packs. Additionally, from information gathered by the Simscommunity fansite, they will only be available on Windows 10 and 11. No pricing details have been announced or leaked yet as well; no one knows for sure if you can purchase them separately.

It’s not clear whether the rerelease bundle will be compatible with Mac like the other games so far. However, given the significant amount of the Mac player base, it’s safe to assume the remasters will be released on the platform as well.

The Sims 1 remaster should include all seven previously released expansions for the game:

  • Livin’ Large.
  • House Party.
  • Hot Date.
  • Vacation.
  • Unleashed.
  • Superstar.
  • Makin’ Magic.

Meanwhile, The Sims 2 has eight expansion packs, with 10 additional bite-sized DLCs called Stuff Packs:

As seen on The Sims 25th anniversary roadmap above, the mysterious Nostalgia Now event indicates a late January release window. Nevertheless, EA is also saving something else for February 25th. Only time will tell whether The Sims 1 and 2 remaster will be released in January or February. Nevertheless, returning to Sim Lane, Neighborhood 1 should mark an exciting moment for the series’ silver anniversary.
