Despite the Overpriced DLCs, We Can’t Seem to Escape The Sims 4, ‘Exactly Why We Aren’t Getting a Sims 5’

I hope you have the money

The Sims 4 has been on the market for a decade now. The game still has a solid user base hooked on the gameplay. With all the DLC and Expansion Packs, Electronic Arts manages to innovate or bring something fresh to the game after such a long time. However, Mods and Custom Content have also been responsible for retaining many players over the years. Yet, even though all the official The Sims 4 extra content is overpriced, in the last EA report, they announced that they gained 15M new players.

It’s incredible how The Sims 4 continues receiving an exorbitant number of fans, as it has since its release. Even more so because recently, EA shared some details of the future with The Sims 5. The truth is that players can recreate all their wildest dreams, which is exactly what keeps them hooked. However, this is also a double-edged sword, as this user says:

Exactly why we arnt getting a sims 5.

Still, the constant is the dissatisfaction with the DLCs and the high prices in exchange for almost anything. Or at least this post shares this way of thinking:

I used to know people that played sims 4 but every time they talked about it, it sounded like a scam. Basic features seemed to be dlc and there was also just an absolute ton of dlc too.

I don’t even want to start talking about the prices. All the DLCs turned out to be expensive, costing more than a thousand dollars.

Around 1400 dollars “worth” of dlc

The mixed reactions show how much the community loves The Sims 4, enough to reach the 15M new players milestone in 2024. Yet the truth is that most of them feel exploited by Electronic Arts, limiting their game so much more than the previous releases. Still, there is hope that this way of monetizing will be less aggressive or that the Expansion Packs will truly offer something to revolutionize the gameplay instead of a pair of socks and a few more accessories. We will have to wait for more information about The Sims 5 and if the devs plan to sell more content separately.
