Have you been waiting for a new Metal Gear game? Well, you don’t have to wait long as the exact release date for the MGS 3 remake is now out in the open. Sony accidentally leaked both a trailer video and Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater‘s August 28, 2025 release date. While the launch date has been scrubbed from the page, the trailer is still accessible on the PlayStation Store at the time of writing.
The leaked trailer showcased several iconic scenes from the beloved spy-thriller-slash-stealth game. These included Naked Snake’s dramatic encounters with the Cobra Unit and Volgin in the Shagohod chasing Snake and Eva. The comedic moment where Snake peers through an RPG scope with an eyepatch-covered eye is also highlighted by the video.
In a much more surprising twist, though the trailer also featured one surprise nobody would’ve expected. The last few seconds of the Metal Gear Solid Δ release date trailer show off a Pipo Monkey from Ape Escape running through the jungle. Then, the scene is followed by an “And more…” message. This tease suggests that the remake could include content from the Persistence version of the original game.
For the uninitiated, the Persistence version of MGS 3 introduced enhancements and additional features, including:
- A revamped 3D camera system, which has been confirmed is in Metal Gear Solid Δ.
- Improved Demo Theatre mode and the Secret Theatre mode.
- Metal Gear Online multiplayer mode.
- The Snake vs. Monkey mini-game where Snake faces off against Ape Escape‘s monkeys.
- Unlockable MSX Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake.
Adding to the excitement, recent rumors suggest Sony will host a PlayStation State of Play stream on February 14th. While the lineup remains hush-hush, this leaked Metal Gear Solid Δ trailer is definitely on the list. Now, let’s see if Sony can keep other bombshells under wraps until it officially launches the stream.
