Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is a huge hit, selling between several hundred thousand and a million copies on its first day. According to a Czech news outlet, Warhorse Studios’ creative director Daniel Vávra said that sales have already covered the game’s entire development costs. “Before the release, we placed bets in the studio on how many copies we would sell. And I won. I missed the mark by only 300 copies. We’re happy with the numbers, and if this trend continues at the same pace, it will be great,” Vávra said.

Vávra stated that the sequel surpasses its successful predecessor in all aspects. Besides adding new story content, the game features a bigger map, new weapons, and various other improvements. While the first game was very successful, selling eight million copies, the second game is proving to be even more popular and polished. “We made sure the game looks better in every way. I’m very focused on visuals, and the game’s graphical dimension is important to me. We achieved that, and even the cutscenes look better, including editing, lighting, acting, and direction. I see that as the most significant improvement,” Vávra said.

In addition to celebrating the game’s success, Vávra also expressed concern about fans visiting the real-life locations featured in the game. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is set in the Bohemian Paradise and Kutná Hora regions, but it also includes a protected area. “I’m certain it will happen again with the second game. There’s even a location on the in-game map that is actually part of a protected landscape area. I debated for a long time whether to include it because I expect players will now go there, and the local conservationists will hate me for it,” Warhorse Studios’ director said.

Fans have been thrilled by the news, praising Warhorse for their hard work. “Absolutely deserved,” one Redditor said. “Very few bugs, beautiful optimization, improving almost every aspect from the original while staying true to its game design. Can’t wait to play more when I come back from work.”

Besides praising the developer and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, some fans also mocked other developers who continue to insist that single-player games are dead. After all, this news came not long after EA’s CEO stated that Dragon Age: The Veilguard could have been more successful if it had included live-service elements.

Many fans didn’t appreciate the comment, wanting their games to remain free from in-game purchases. “And AAAA studios will continue to say that making good games is so expensive that there’s no point in expecting a return unless they cost $100 and have dozens of DLCs,” another Redditor said.
