Twilight star Taylor Lautner will star as himself in Taylor Lautner: Werewolf Hunter for Amazon. The series is in development, with Daisy Gardner serving as creator and showrunner. Fans will see the 33-year-old actor face the monsters he once portrayed in his most iconic role. Variety broke the story, revealing Lautner’s upcoming on-screen appearance as a younger and more violent version of himself.

The high point of Taylor Lautner’s career so far has been his role as Jacob Black in the Twilight franchise. He portrayed the moody werewolf third wheel in five feature films over four years. The Twilight movies raked in over $3 billion and established almost all of their stars as cultural icons. Taylor Lautner became associated with monsters forever, but he’s turning that into an asset again. Taylor Lautner: Werewolf Hunter opens with the actor leaving the set of the final Twilight movie. After concluding the franchise, he becomes an ally of a secret society of monster hunters who need his unique skills. Lautner must battle the shapeshifting beasts while reckoning with his internal conflicts. The monsters that turned him into an icon became the threat that could cut his career short early. It’s a fun meta concept that could launch the actor back to prominence.

Taylor Lautner: Werewolf Hunter came to Amazon through Tornante, an independent production company. They masterminded shows like Bojack Horseman, Tuca & Bertie, and N0S4A2. The show’s creator and showrunner is Daisy Taylor, whom TruTV fans may remember as a talking head on World’s Dumbest. She’s a prominent screenwriter and producer on programs like The Goldbergs, Silicon Valley, and Single Drunk Female. Taylor Lautner: Werewolf Hunter also features the dynamic directing duo of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. Together, these two talents helmed the two most recent Scream films, along with Abigail and Ready or Not. They’ll direct and executive produce episodes of the series, bringing their company, Radio Silence, into the mix. While there’s a lot we don’t know about the show, the team seems fit to bring this idea to life in style.

Taylor Lautner became a lot less prominent after Twilight, giving him the perfect opportunity for a comeback. This show could be his JCVD, playing with his old fame to give him a new shot at success. His co-stars, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, have never missed an opportunity to have fun with their shared success. Taylor Lautner: Werewolf Hunter could be exactly the spark the performer needs to return to the spotlight.
