X Marks the Spot Where Genshin Impact Players Got Annoyed by the Distracting New Quest Banner: ‘I’m Well Aware of What Quests I Haven’t Done’

The Badly Placed Banner blues

Even the farthest corners of Teyvat are full of beauty and wonder. You’d never know it though, thanks to the giant quest banner now planted firmly in the corner of the Genshin Impact map screen. Finding the right QoL balance is a challenge for any developer, and HoYoverse hasn’t been exempt. There’s nothing wrong with giving players a gentle reminder about a pending quest, but UI changes like this are an unnecessary eyesore. Even when the banner isn’t blocking the specific thing you’re trying to look at, it’s a giant glowing distraction. Here’s how some Genshin players are reacting to the change.

Eyesores and UI Real Estate

Fellas, how we feeling about this style of map notification?

The QoL struggle is real for Teyvat Travelers, and frustrating farming isn’t made any easier by the intrusive map banner. Genshin Impact has no shortage of quests to track, but the new banner is the wrong kind of reminder for a few reasons. A Reddit post on the subject by u/ColouringPenMountain garnered over 3k upvotes and numerous comments expressing frustration with the situation. One commenter described the new banner as “visually invasive,” while another pointed out that this is now the fourth quest notification (joining those in the quest menu, Adventurer’s Book guide tab, and events menu).

There are a ton of quests in Genshin, so tracking them is a legitimate concern. That wouldn’t be a problem if everyone were trying to 100% regions as fast as possible, but many players simply don’t play that way. As another commenter put it,

I hate it. I’m on the map screen for the purpose of finding markers for whatever I’m working on at the moment. A distracting banner graphic seems wrongfully placed. Like others have said, I’m well aware of what quests I haven’t done and some of that is by choice.

Changing the UI always risks upsetting players, especially when things haven’t changed for years. Pinning a shiny banner to a map that you need to actively pay attention to for navigation? Not ideal. It would be one thing if you could toggle it off, but without even that option, this eyesore is here to stay in Teyvat, at least for now.
