An Oklahoma woman is full of regret for allegedly causing the death of her 2-month-old infant. Kristeny N. Davis is facing second-degree murder after getting drunk and leaving an infant and a 4-year-old unattended.
Last month, officers of the Norman Police Department responded to a welfare check call at OU Children’s Hospital. It was about an infant boy with severe head injuries. Unfortunately, the 2-month-old succumbed to his injuries and died less than a day after a hospital transfer. A probable cause affidavit obtained by Law& Crime revealed the infant suffered multiple skull fractures, causing authorities to investigate.
In her first interview, Davis told police that she left the kids unattended to for about three or four minutes. Upon her return, she saw the younger one “injured and laying in a small ballpit.” The 32-year-old informed authorities that it wasn’t her infant’s first time in the spot. The previous day she claimed her 4-year-old threw “[the victim] into that same ballpit.” Davis insisted her younger son suffered no injuries despite noting the older son would “frequently jump into the ball pit from nearby furniture.” The police report, however, said otherwise:
“Initial reports to investigators were that the child had been flung into a ball pit in the residence, and that’s how the injuries occurred.”
Upon further investigation, authorities found the Oklahoma native wasn’t telling the entire truth. It turns out she was drinking throughout the day her infant suffered the fatal injuries. At 9 Am on the fateful day, Davis purchased her first pint of whiskey. She reportedly reached out to the kids’ father to pick up their 4-year-old from daycare because she was impaired. However, she changed her mind and decided to do it herself. On her way to the daycare, around 3:30pm, she purchased a second bottle of whiskey. Davis blood alcohol concentration during the day was as high as .14, the police affidavit confirmed.
“It was also found that after she arrived home with [the children], the defendant’s phone was inactive and in a locked state from approximately 1700- 1830 hours.”
Unlike her initial confession, Davis left her children unattended to for almost two hours. She was “intoxicated and sleeping,” the report confirms. Unfortunately, it was during that time her infant was injured. “I can’t do anything but blame myself,” a heartbroken Davis confessed.
The disgraced mother is being held in the Cleveland County Detention Centre on bond of $750,000. A preliminary court hearing will happen on March 1.
