While Musk doesn’t officially earn a salary as the head of DOGE, his position is certainly profitable. Texas House Representative Greg Casar is going viral on Reddit for a withering attack on Elon Musk and institutionalized corruption, calling out the eye-watering $8 million a day Musk receives from federal contracts.
As a commenter on Reddit points out, Texas House Representative Greg Casar is someone “everyone should have on their radar.” The plain-speaking, level rhetoric, backed by facts, certainly commands attention.
In the impressive clip, Casar asks Haywood Talcove, CEO of Lexis Nexis Risk Solution, a pointed question. He questions whether Talcove knows how much money a day Musk will receive from the federal government for his contracts. When Talcove says he does not, Casar reveals the astonishing figure: $8 million. That’s $8 million a day that Elon Musk is benefitting from his position. Casar goes on to point out that last year Musk was promised $3 billion from nearly 100 contracts.
To highlight the absolute absurdity of wealth inequality, Greg Casar then reveals another damming statistic. The Texas House Representative reveals that the average person in the US who survives on Social Security receives just $65 a day. Delivering a withering verdict, Casar points out that Musk’s $8 million a day isn’t being investigated, but the $65 a day that Social Security claimants receive is.
Casar suggests that surely most Americans would want taxpayer savings from not lining billionaires’ pockets further considered. But, he contends, House Republicans would rather chase children’s lunch money, teacher salaries, and Social Security. Casar suggests that, when DOGE considers government efficiency, it isn’t investigating “billionaires who don’t pay their taxes.”
Greg Casar concludes his powerful speech by suggesting why the government doesn’t investigate “big tech” and “big pharma” companies. Essentially, he posits, these companies “fund their campaigns.”
The passion and coherence that Greg Casar shows inspired many on Reddit. “This striping young fellow also gives off great vibes,” one user commented. Another pointed out that Democrats “desperately need a young superstar” looking forward to the 2028 US Presidential election. We’ll have to see whether or not Greg Casar features. But, on this evidence, he should have a bright future ahead in US politics.
