Robert Pattinson Insists He’s ‘Cool’ With Delay to The Batman Part II Filming

We need a hero.

The wait for The Batman Part II just got a little longer. Robert Pattinson has confirmed that filming on the highly anticipated sequel won’t begin until late 2025, pushing the Dark Knight’s return even further into the future. This is the latest update since the last announcement of a delay last year.

Speaking to Deadline on the red carpet for his upcoming film Mickey 17, Pattinson was tight-lipped on plot details but did drop a signature understated tease: “It’s cool, though. It’s cool.”

The Batman’s road back to Gotham has been a slow one. Originally slated for release on October 2, 2026, Warner Bros. recently pushed the date back an entire year to October 1, 2027. Director Matt Reeves previously suggested that filming would begin at some point in 2025, but Pattinson’s latest update confirms it’ll be much later in the year than fans might have hoped.

The actor acknowledged the long wait, joking, “It’s a while… everything feels so long ago because COVID just erased three years.”

Plot details remain under wraps, but Pattinson is expected to reprise his role as Bruce Wayne alongside returning cast members Andy Serkis (Alfred Pennyworth), Jeffrey Wright (Jim Gordon), and Colin Farrell (The Penguin). Farrell is already deep in The Batman universe, with his HBO Max spinoff series The Penguin set to premiere later this year.

Director Matt Reeves is back at the helm, co-writing the script with Mattson Tomlin. While he hasn’t spilled much about the sequel, Reeves has promised something unexpected: “We’re doing something that continues where the story came from and something I hope people are really surprised by.”

Andy Serkis, meanwhile, is just as eager as fans. Speaking at Orlando’s MegaCon, he revealed, “I am as hungry for it as you all are. [Matt Reeves] told me the story of The Batman 2, and I was so excited for it.”

Before donning the cape and cowl again, Pattinson will first head into production on Christopher Nolan’s next epic, an adaptation of The Odyssey.

With The Batman Part II now over two and a half years away, fans will need the patience of Alfred Pennyworth himself. But if Pattinson’s cryptic enthusiasm is anything to go by, Gotham’s next chapter might just be worth the wait.
