Once you progress through the Monster Hunter Wilds campaign, you’ll face Lala Barina, the one creature responsible for the arachnophobia filter in the game. This graceful yet dangerous menace is capable of rapid attacks and even paralyzing hunters. Even if it is one of the early-game monsters you face, this hunt is no joke and will require a lot of preparation, and you must bring your best dodging skills. But if you manage to survive, one of the game’s cutest armors awaits you, so that’s a bonus.

Lala Barina Weaknesses

Fighting Lala Barina won’t be hard because, contrary to other monsters, you’ll already have a few elemental weapons that can attack its weaknesses. In terms of elemental damage and status effects, Lala Barina is weak to fire. Since you’ve already fought Quematrice, you should have a few fire-infused weapons. If not, hunt Quematrice a few times to craft some. Once you have it, here are the other status effects and elemental damage this monster is susceptible to:

  • Fire (Super Effective)
  • Stun (Super Effective)

All other status effects fall into the effective category, or for the veteran hunters, 2-star effectiveness. They aren’t bad, but Fire and Stun are much better. In terms of traps, bring Flash Pods, Shock Traps, and Pitfall Traps. Last but not least, do not attack Lala Barina with Water or Dragon attacks, as it is immune to both of these elements.

Hunt Strategy

Once you have the above elements, weapons, and traps, it’s time to begin the hunt. Out of all early-game monsters, Lala Barina is one of the fastest in Monster Hunter Wilds. It can bounce around the battlefield, attack quickly with its legs, charge at you, and once it opens the flower on its back, it will leave flying flowers that can paralyze you, meaning your effective battle range won’t be as effective. For melee hunters, this isn’t so bad, but ranged fighters might have a harder time. In any case, this is the strategy you should follow:

  1. Hit its head when possible, but wait for its flower to bloom.
    1. Hitting Lala Barina’s head is the best choice you have until its flower bud opens. Once the paralyzing flowers start flying, you need to dodge and start hitting the flower on its back. This is the monster’s weakest spot, which is where you’ll do most of the damage.
  2. If Lala Barina moves too fast, aim for its legs.
    1. Lala Barina’s legs aren’t a weak spot per se, but they take a lot of damage from hits. If you can’t position yourself behind it, hit its legs until you open a wound. You can change many focus strikes if you focus on the legs and start hitting one after another. Or even better, destroy the leg wounds and move in to hit its tail until you create another wound.
  3. Blunt damage is ideal for this fight.
    1. While Slash damage is also great, Lala Barina’s head suffers increased damage from Blunt attacks, meaning Hammer or even the Shield of SnS will help a lot here. Again, all weapons work in the fight, but if you’re going for effectiveness, there’s nothing like a good old bonk.

Lala Barina Materials

Should you manage to defeat Lala Barina in Monster Hunter Wilds, you’ll get a lot of materials that will let you craft one of the game’s fanciest armor sets for you and your Palico, as well as some weapons infused with Paralyzing effects. Here’s what you’ll get:
