Several Florida college students have found themselves under fire after two fraternities were suspended due to serious and extreme hazing. The University of Central Florida has taken disciplinary action against Sigma Chi and Delta Upsilon due to their “dangerous and degrading” methods of hazing pledges. Unfortunately, things went way too far when one pledge was actually hit with a car and could allegedly be heard screaming and begging for help.
An investigation is now ongoing into the Florida college students’ actions and the fraternities’ hazing rituals, per Fox News. It’s shockingly alleged that fraternity brothers as Sigma Chi have a tradition of forcing their pledges to stand in front of cars and allow members of the frat to hit them with their vehicle. However, after one pledge allegedly suffered injury from the ritual, the tides have turned.
A sorority member whose house is next to the Sigma Chi fraternity told police that she saw a car strike a student, who then began yelling “Help! My bones, My bones, they’re broken.”
UCF official released a statement about the incident revealing that both Sigma Chi and Delta Upsilon were placed on interim suspension while the investigation occurs. Currently, they’re being looked into for felony hazing that includes “a risk of injury or death.”

Sadly, this isn’t the first time that Sigma Chi has caused issues. The fraternity was reportedly suspended eight times within five years, including four suspensions in 2019. One of the suspensions occurred when a fraternity member was said to have blindfolded a pledge and forced him to use cocaine.
“UCF unequivocally condemns hazing in all forms, and we are committed to holding individuals and organizations accountable for actions that threaten the safety and well-being of our students and others,” assistant vice principal of strategic initiatives and communications, Courtney Gilmartin, stated.
Of course, people were absolutely horrified upon hearing about the hazing incident. Many condemned the fraternity and Greek culture altogether at colleges.
“It’s obvious that suspensions don’t scare these kids off one bit. It’s time to shut them down for good,” one person commented on the situation.
“They need to put an end to fraternities altogether,” another agreed.
“The dangerous consequences of hazing have been identified and outlawed for many decades. This is premeditated torture by sick individuals who should be prosecuted to the limits of the law,” said another.
“This is vile and needs to be stopped now,” a fourth comment read.
Currently, the investigation is ongoing. However, the Florida college students have been barred from both on and off campus activity, including social events. They’re also suspended from recruiting during this time.
