Sometimes, nature can be absolutely awe-inspiring and equal parts terrifying. Displays of power are so epic and beyond our scope that comprehension can be hard to come by. In a shocking(see what we did there) video, a deadly and jaw-opening lightning bolt from the heavens in Atlanta, Georgia, had folks questioning if God himself was smiting a heathen or two with such a raw display of power.

Video of Lightning that struck Atlanta from yesterday's storms.

In a wild video shared by user ClerkMajestic on the r/interestingasf*** Reddit page, you can see a nighttime sky over downtown Atlanta, and then, out of nowhere, the sky opens up. An absolutely massive lightning bolt ripples down and strikes, lingering for a long time. It’s a stunning video and a testament to the raw power of nature and how beautiful yet deadly it can be. Folks on Reddit were eager to compare it to God’s wrath and Thor smiting fools with his powers. Please don’t take our word for it, check the video out above.

“That bolt stuck around for a while”

“Is it me or did it feel like it stayed lit longer than it should?”

“40 years on that planet, seen endless amounts of lightning living on the Great Lakes. I have never seen a bolt of lightning persist like that.”

“That’s not lightning, that’s someone getting annoyed Smited”

“Repent”

“I live across the street from where the lightning struck. I actually pushed my flight back home to Sunday just to avoid the storm. Most of my electronics at home have been acting weird since I got back”

Eagle-eye readers noticed that the video was being played at .25 speed, so the lightning bolt didn’t really stay that long; it was just in super-slow motion. Slow or not, though, there’s no doubt whatever was on the receiving end of that bolt did not have a good time, sinner or otherwise.
