A Texas native who rents an apartment in Austin narrowly avoided losing their life recently when their reckless neighbor engaged in some seriously dangerous behavior with a loaded gun. When the weapon was fired, bullets traveled through the wall into the adjacent unit and landed just a few feet away from the sleeping person. Now, the worried neighbor wants to see some action taken against the irresponsible tenant, but it’s been slow going.
The Texas victim took to the Legal Advice Reddit to share their story. The Austin apartment renter revealed that they were in bed when their neighbor fired a gun in their apartment at around 11 p.m. Two bullets then came through the shared wall and landed just a few feet from where the person was sleeping.
“My neighbor was doing some stupid s–t with his gun and he discharged into my apartment leaving two bullet holes in my room three feet away from my bed while I was sleeping. This was last Thursday and I called the police and filed a police report,” the social media user shared.
The poster revealed that the neighbor never came over to apologize or even said anything about the incident. “He still hasn’t said anything to me,” the person confirmed. The victim called their property manager to disclose the situation and asked that the tenant be evicted for his dangerous behavior.

“UT owns my apartment building and UTPD upgraded it to deadly conduct and 2 charges of suspicious activity,” the post continued.
So far, there has been no news on the investigation or the status of the tenant’s standing in the apartment building. The victim says that they were eventually able to fall asleep the night of the incident, but is now realizing just how lucky they really were.
For now, the Texas renter says they feel “mostly safe.” However, they’re unsure what the next step may be. They’ve already contacted the police and the building manager. However, the gun wielding neighbor is still living in the building.
Of course, others on the forum felt major sympathy for the Austin apartment renter.
“This is literally so crazy. You could have easily been killed. This neighbor needs to be evicted and some sort of legal action should be taken,” one person commented.
“You’ve done what you can do. The police and the property manager have no legal requirement or obligation to update you on the processings with the neighbor,” another stated.
“Dang that’s crazy! I would say keep your head up, but seems like laying low worked the first time,” a third person wrote.
“That is scary You should be informed and they should be done and gone from the apartment,” a fourth comment read.
For now, it seems to be a waiting game for the Texas victim. Thankfully, this incident didn’t end in a much worse way.
