A Florida citizen has masterminded a fuel theft that stunned the imaginations of many. On April 4, a citizen named Osney Gutierrez Hernandez stole fuel worth thousands of dollars from a Pasco County 7-Eleven.

Hernandez, in his pickup truck, stopped at the gas station located at 9077 Land O’ Lakes Boulevard to pump fuel. However, after inserting his debit card, he found a way to get more diesel than he paid. The arrest affidavit detailed that the suspect “was able to manipulate the pump to continue dispensing fuel without incurring the appropriate charges.”

Authorities further disclosed that the fuel pumped was directed to an altered fuel tank hidden in the truck’s bed. The arrest document stated that “The tank was a 100-gallon legitimate fuel tank, which had been altered to add an approximately 100 to 500-gallon tank to the side.”

Per WFLA, 7-Eleven corporate investigators found that the Florida citizen had committed the same act four other times. For the four occasions, Hernandez had used the same gas pump and the same vehicle. According to the investigators, the Florida citizen stole a total amount of 722.16 gallons worth $2,629.33.

With news of the fuel theft going viral, many netizens began questioning how the suspect pulled the act. Some users even theorized there was a magical force at play.

One user explained, “I’ll say he used telekinesis to make the pump work when it shouldn’t. Although he could have used magic too.”

Another user wrote, “Your guess is as good as mine. Maybe he is or knows a pump technician who taught him a bypass code. The user continued with a list of suggestions about how the theft worked.

“Maybe he bought a special card from Temu that imitates a debit card. Could be anything at all that would trick the pump into pumping gas without charging. Maybe he’s a wizard,” they wrote.

Other netizens pointed out the man’s greed. A person wrote, “He somehow got the pump to keep pumping without charging. That’s the story. Greed got him. They will notice someone putting 200 gallons of fuel in a van. If he had just done 10 or 20 gallons per trip, they never would have figured it out.”

Gutierrez Hernandez has been arrested and slammed with charges of a scheme to defraud and unlawful conveyance of fuel. This is one of the instances of gas fraud being committed; hopefully, more fraudsters will be caught and made to face the law.
