Oblivion Remastered Lets You Access Elder Scrolls 6 (Sort Of): ‘So That’s Where 120 GB Comes From!’

Who’s laughing now?

Oblivion Remastered just came out, but any Elder Scrolls fan knows that The Elder Scrolls 6: Somewhere in Tamriel is still the bigger deal. The somewhat good news is that Oblivion Remastered lets players access the other Tamriel provinces where The Elder Scrolls 6 could possibly take place– likely in an unintended interaction or bug. So now players who are itching for more Elder Scrolls are supposedly taking a sneak peek.

Thanks to the findings and claims of one Oblivion Remastered player named GnoblinXD, we now know that it’s possible to go to other Tamriel provinces such as Valenwood (Wood Elf homeland), Elsweyr (Khajiit homeland), and perhaps even Summerset Isles (High Elf homeland).

Apparently, Oblivion Remastered just lets players keep walking past the borders of Cyrodiil or the current province in which the game takes place. This opens up exploration to other regions in the Elder Scrolls lore previously only accessible through the MMO. So far, testing for how far players could go has only reached up to the southwestern part of the map.

Apparently you can just leave Cyrodiil

Sadly, while the landmass is present, it’s not detailed or populated. You can go there, but there’s not much to do other than walk or take pictures. Most of the time, the borders of Cyrodiil are closed off by faux-walls, but if you walk along the Strid River from Skingrad, you can access the Valenwood, Elsweyr, and Summerset Isles landmasses (or water areas). Some players have joked that the empty regions constitute the bulk of the 120 GB storage requirement for Oblivion Remastered.

“So thatโ€™s where all those 120 gigs came from!,” suspects Redditor Titter-Shitter

“Little did anyone know, if you travel that way, you reach Elder Scrolls 6,” hopes Redditor Mickeystix

It’s worth noting that there’s no confirmed Tamriel province for The Elder Scrolls 6 yet, though some rumors point to Valenwood, Summerset Isles, or even Hammerfell (who wants to see some curved swords?).

What About Other Provinces?

Out of curiosity and longing for more of Todd’s sweet little lie– erm, I mean, creations, I did my own testing to see just how far the game allows you to tour Tamriel using the aging handcar that is Oblivion. The results were sad.

Most of the time, the game just tells you to go back and bumps you into an invisible wall. Trying to cross into Hammerfell, Skyrim, the eastern side of Elsweyr, Morrowind, and Black Marsh all result in an invisible wall. So the hidden entrance to Valenwood through the Strid River is likely a bug.

There’s also a chance that it’s an Easter Egg at this point, seeing as Bethesda appears to be trying out a new form of marketing. In any case, it’s possible that the Valenwood/Elsweyr entrance will get patched out later on through updates, so you might want to enjoy it while you can.
