Politics in America currently aren’t at their best stage. With the rise of crazy decisions made by Trump, along with the number of immigrants detained and deported, things aren’t well. People have been sympathizing with immigrants and how ICE officers treat them. Many have shared videos in support of detainees and talked about what is happening. This didn’t change anything yet, but it still matters. It matters especially when some Texas detainees at an immigration center spell out SOS. A camera caught this moment and pleaded for help. People, reasonably so, were left horrified.
In the video, you can see aerial footage of a yard in an immigration center. The camera zooms in on the Texas detainees as they form with their bodies SOS. They organize themselves pretty well, honestly. You can easily understand the Texas detainees’ message. That, however, doesn’t make it easier to grasp. The fact that we are looking at a video where people are asking for help, and we can’t do anything, is heartbreaking. It is inhumane that they are going through such treatment. One can only imagine the things they are terrified of facing that made them show this message.
People Reacting to the Texas Detainees’ Message
Under the video posted on Reddit, people had mixed feelings about what they just saw. One person hinted at what is waiting for the Texas detainees after their call for help. “Welp , there goes yard time. Back inside, nothing to see here,” they wrote. Another replied by saying, “Yeah, sadly, moves like this often just lead to harsher restrictions instead of addressing the actual problems.” The video even reached someone who used to work in the same immigration center. They said:
“I used to work there. I’m betting all that’s going to happen is whoever was running rec that day is getting fired for letting this happen, and that dorm won’t be going to rec for a while. Upper management was a joke when I worked there (over a year ago at this point). They will make some big speech to the dorm/detainees and to the officers and then just wait for it to go away. And in all honesty it probably will just go away. I don’t see any group traveling to Anson to protest. It’s hot as hell and far away from any big cities.”
Another person asked, “So…. Are we going to help them….. or look into this ?” Apparently, the answer is no. One Redditor joked about how the Trump administration would look at the Texas detainees’ SOS message. “Trump administration: ‘sos is a pseudonym for ms13’,” they wrote. Others, unfortunately, justified what was happening. One person wrote, “They are human beings however they are human beings that have committed a crime. Shocking that they are locked up.” Well, they aren’t being treated like human beings. In fact, the Trump administration is calling them aliens. The message of the Texas detainees should have left the world in shock. Maybe in another life.
