The Nine are finally here! Well, in some capacity. Destiny 2 has kicked off its Rite of the Nine event, which will take a few Guardians down memory lane while welcoming others into some iconic dungeons. However, this event might be a bit daunting for some newcomers and even confuse a few veterans. For that reason, we’ve prepared a guide to show you everything coming to the Rite of the Nine event, so you can start your dungeon-grinding in the easiest possible way.

How To Start the Rite of the Nine Event

Before you jump into the dungeons of Rite of the Nine in Destiny 2, there are a few things you need to do.

  1. First, head to Eternity and open the chest. It contains two Exotics, as well as a bunch of weapons and a whole armor set. This should bring you to Power Level 2023.
  2. Also, you can attune yourself to a weapon. If you want a weapon to drop more often while you do the dungeons, select it from there. You can swap attunements at any moment.
  3. Last but not least, grab all bounties and quests from The Emissary.
  4. Once that’s done, head to your map, select eternity, and pick your dungeon. For the first week, we’ll all see the Spire of the Watcher dungeon, which will rotate weekly with Ghosts of the Deep and Prophecy.
    • Important Note: You do not need the dungeon key to play these dungeons. They are free for all players.

Besides being able to play these past dungeons, you’ll also be able to obtain 12 returning weapons. You can attune to any of them from Eternity, which also helps to see the loot you’ll obtain. Here are the weapons coming with this event:

  • A Sudden Death Shotgun
  • Cold Comfort Rocket Launcher
  • Greasy Luck Glaive
  • Judgment Hand Cannon
  • Liminal Vigil Sidearm
  • Long Arm Scout Rifle
  • New Pacific Epitaph Grenade Launcher
  • No Survivors Submachine Gun
  • Prosecutor Auto Rifle
  • Relentless Pulse Rifle
  • Terminus Horizon Machine Gun
  • Wilderflight Grenade Launcher

On top of that, you can expect the usual emblems and titles from the event, but the above weapons are the ones you should pursue.

Difficulty Modes Explained

Rite of the Nine in Destiny 2 brings three difficulty modes. Some might be normal for players who’ve already delved into a few dungeons, while there is one particular mode that is perfect for solo players and anyone who hasn’t experienced a dungeon before. The easiest mode doesn’t have any modifiers, while the last two have a few that will make the run more challenging. Below is the breakdown of each.

  • Explorer Mode (Easy/Beginner Friendly)
    • Fixed Power.
    • No Dark Zones.
    • Enemies are weaker.
    • Grants a bonus to damage when on a less-than-full fireteam.
    • Legacy Dungeon Triumphs cannot be progressed in this mode.
    • Exotic weapon will not drop.
  • Eternity (Normal Mode)
    • A more challenging dungeon. Completing an encounter with fewer deaths grants better rewards.
    • Exotic drop rates boost after runs.
    • Brawn: Your health is massively increased, but does not regenerate. Defeating challenging combatants will restore health for you and your allies.
    • Randomized Banes: Combatants are granted random Banes.
    • Shocker: When defeated, Goblins spawn Arc pools that cause damage over time.
    • Shielded Foes: Combatants have Arc and Void shields.
  • Ultimatum (Hardest Mode)
    • Notswap: Swapping Exotic armor or ammo type in the Kinetic or Energy weapon slot drains all ability energy.
    • Ultimatum from the Nine: The activity is set at a fixed difficulty.
    • Scorched Earth: Enemies throw grenades significantly more often.
    • Randomized Banes.
    • Galvanized: Combatants have more health and are more difficult to stun.
    • All other modifiers from Eternity difficulty.

If you’re experiencing these dungeons for the first time, there’s nothing wrong with starting on Explorer difficulty. After a few rounds, find a fireteam and move on to Eternity and Ultimatum if you dare, although the last one might be a bit challenging, too.

In any case, this event is a great way to get some rare weapons, and if you have a few friends, it makes things even better. If not, you can still get some loot while completing bounties and quests, so it isn’t too bad to pursue this event casually.
