A lot of weird things happen in New York, but sometimes they are things you actually want to be part of. One New York man organized a best stuffed animal contest where the winner gets $13. If you thought no one would show up, well, you are wrong. Almost 40 contestants went to where the contest was taking place. Even the police were there to make sure nothing went wrong. Honestly, what could go wrong in a best stuffed animal contest? Either way, the New York man’s contest definitely attracted a lot of people who brought along their stuffed animals to compete for the first spot.
One of the stuffed animals was named Ray. His owner described how it was the first birthday present he had ever gotten, and this is why he brought it with him to New York. Someone else had a large stuffed toy duck named Shmung. He claims that he found it on the New York City subway when he was four. My favorite stuffed toy has to be Shadow, who apparently loves Latinas. The winners of the New York man’s contest, however, didn’t satisfy everyone. Coming in first place was a bear a girl got from her mom, who in turn had it from Belarus in 1988. This is, according to her, quite the achievement. I still believe Shadow deserved the win. He looked cooler.
People React to the New York Man’s Contest
Almost everyone fell in love with the New York man’s idea. Some even hoped that something similar would be organized near them. “Someone needs to organise this near me I’d die of happiness I swear,” one person wrote. Another said, “I would do it only to show off my favorite plush, prize or not!!” One Redditor even wrote, “If I were still in college, I would definitely try to do something like this…! This is so wholesome and cute and I love it! Makes me wish I could have flown out for this…!”
Some focused more on the winners and losers of the New York man’s contest. One person wrote, “This looks so fun! Congratulations to the owner of the cute 80s Teddy Bear from Belarus!” Another didn’t like the fact that the bear won and not the Subway duck. “subway duck was robbed,” they wrote. To which another person replied, saying, “Justice for Shmung.” A third person claimed that the story behind the duck’s origins is not true. One Redditor pointed out how the New York man’s contest captured the spirit of New York. “Another reason I love NYC. Literally so many random things happening. Walking down the street you never know what you’ll see or do,” they said. I would have loved to bring my own stuffed animal.
