Dating based on someone else’s political affiliation isn’t so out of the ordinary these days. In some cases, this is due to the fact that a difference in political opinions doesn’t always fare well in a relationship. A woman from California turned to TikTok when politics made their way into her date. It actually helped her make the decision not to go on a second date with the man in question. Now, social media users are sharing their opinions on what they would have done in her situation.
A TikTok video posted by Renee Rodriguez was captioned, “Me wasting time in the bathroom after my date told me he lied about voting for Kamala Harris in order to get me to go out with him.” Renee went on to tell her followers that she met her date on the Hinge. They spoke back and forth a little before the meeting.
She asked him who he voted for in the 2024 presidential election as a precursor to the date. He told her, former Vice President Kamala Harris. This is what initially kick-started her interest in going on a date with him in the first place.
When Renee arrived on the date, some conversation was shared before the man told her that “He did not vote in this last election, and he lied, and he wanted to tell me in person. What do we think about that?” Renee was clearly flustered. Not only did he lie, but that he didn’t vote in the first place.
TikTok users were just as appalled as Renee about his dating style. Commenters responded with, “Now if you gotta lie about your political affiliation to get a date, it’s probably the biggest and most important sign that you’re on the wrong side of history,” or, in her date’s case, choosing not to vote at all. Another said, “Normalize walking out of bad dates. Especially with liars.” Someone thought up the most brutal way to handle it: “Girl order everything on the menu and then leave.”
There were, however, many good points about starting off a prospective relationship on the right foot. Somebody posed a question: “If he lied about that, what else would he lie about?” Others ran to Renee’s rescue, telling her that she should walk right out of the restaurant.
The truth is, political affiliation can even sometimes be dangerous. This is especially true if a woman, POC, or person from the trans community finds themselves up against an angry male who doesn’t like being challenged on their opinions regarding politics. At any rate, women have a right to protect themselves from this.
Luckily, Renee dodged a bullet with this one. She shared with her followers in the video that she would not be taking the second date. I believe this is a ‘good for her’ situation!
