Texas Hair Salon Charges Fee When Parents Stay With Their Child, ‘Why Are They Discouraging Parents to Stay with Their Kids by Charging a Fee? POLICE’

Is that you, Mr. Krabs?

It isn’t unusual for a child to want to experience things with their parent around. If you have ever taken a young child to the hairdresser, perhaps you stood nearby or sat on a chair reading magazines until their appointment ended. One mom from Texas is calling out a hair salon because they charged her a “non-compliance fee.” What for? Why? For staying in the salon while her young daughter got a haircut. Mr. Krabs would be proud!

The poster, Mel, explained on TikTok that the hair salon had a policy that didn’t allow parents to wait inside during a child’s hair appointment. They did inform Mel as she was booking the appointment; however, she went forward with the appointment anyway. Mel said she threw in the towel and agreed she’d pay the $25 fee, as stated, at the end.

However, after her 6-year-old’s hair was styled, Mel received a bill of $70. Another stylist chimed in and asked if the noncompliance fee was added, to which the child’s stylist claimed that it wasn’t. She returned and informed Mel that she wouldn’t actually be paying $25. Instead, it would be an astounding $45! Mel didn’t want to argue with the salon and decided to just pay the fee.

It gets worse, though. The salon, Lady Tea DFW Hair Clinic, then told Mel they had actually forgotten to add in the cost of the hair trim as well. When they calculated the final price, it came out to a whopping $105. Mel exclaimed, “You’re telling me a trim cost $35? My trims don’t even cost $35.” Though Mel paid the amount, she promised she would never return and decided to take to TikTok. Mel was hoping to spare others the same drama and get suggestions for a new stylist.

Viewers saw all the red flags when they watched Mel’s video. One person said, “Oh no ma’am. A fee for a parent to be a parent? That’s crazy.” Another hilariously said, “Get Olivia Benson on the line. BC why are they discouraging parents to stay with their kids by charging a fee? POLICE.”

Others suggested that the salon seriously needs to be investigated. Mel did, however, make a follow-up video stating she didn’t believe the salon was being inappropriate. She just wasn’t happy with the service and unexpected charges.

Unfortunately, the hair salon took things too far and called out Mel on social media. They even went as far as to share her name and the name of the client who recommended them to Mel. They have since deleted their posts, but the fact remains that Mel was way too nice. Mel even stated on the matter of the video, “This was a great opportunity to handle this professionally. You could have just turned your comments off and let it die down… But this is your response?”

There are plenty of good businesses out there. And then there are those looking to make a quick buck by taking advantage of customers. I don’t know many parents who will want to comfortably leave their young child in the hands of a stranger. That means most parents would decide to pay the fee and avoid the drama. You should still kick up a fuss if you’re being taken advantage of.
