Encountering door-to-door sellers can be quite annoying, especially if they keep insisting on selling their services. Of course, many are just hard-working individuals trying to earn a living. In a bizarre internet clip that speaks to exactly that, a man in Colorado –who we’ll dub a “male Karen”– took exception to one poor salesman only trying to do his job. Upset that a pest control salesman was attempting to sell his services, he decided to go into full-on jerk mode. His solution? To walk behind the guy while filming and annoying him.
The video starts with the Karen walking behind the guy and filming him, mimicking the salesman. He starts jeering, “Why are you bothering people who don’t want to be bothered?” The guy’s response is to simply laugh, which prompted mockery from Mr. Karen. When the guy tells him that he is invading his personal space, he only gets closer to him and asks for his business card. Finally, as the Karen starts to walk away, the guy decides to tease him a little bit more. “Oh, did you just walk 15 steps and got tired? Oh, you’re out of breath. You need an inhaler?”
People Reacting to the Colorado Male Karen’s Behavior
People were divided between supporting the Colorado male Karen or coming after him. Some say that he was right and that the pest control guy shouldn’t be there. Others believed that he shouldn’t have acted this way. One person wrote about the male Karen, “All big ‘ol blue shirt has to do is put up a no soliciting sign and/or say no. What a jerk.” Another person came to his defense and said, “To be fair, most of these dudes completely ignore no soliciting signs. I’ve had one for 10 years as a homeowner and I still get solicitors who either don’t care or must be illiterate.”
Others didn’t like the pest control guy, but they couldn’t ignore that he was just trying to make a living. “Door-to-door salesmen are as old as time. I am not a fan of them but this fella following the sales guy is an idiot. Dude is just trying to make a living,” one wrote.
Some focused on the Karen’s lack of fitness: “It was nice of the camera guy to take him for a walk,” one person said. Another added, “That last part really struck the old boy in his heart.”
Regardless of what you think of door-to-door salesmen, you have to try and respect someone making an honest living. And most of Reddit seems to agree. Be kind to people, and don’t harass people doing their job.
