Josh Duggar has made a new move to overturn his 12-year sentence following Donald Trump’s pardon of convicted Todd and Julie Chrisley. In 2022, the 19 Kids and Counting alum was convicted on charges of receipt and possession of child pornography.
After two denied appeals, Duggar took a further step on May 27 to change his fate, alleging that there were “constitutional violations” in his trial. In a letter addressed to the judge presiding over his case, the incarcerated reality star requested legal aid to “help evaluate whether there were constitutional violations” during his trial.
The dad of seven urged that if appropriate, “prepare a motion to vacate, set aside or correct his sentence and conviction.” Further in his letter, he claimed that there were peculiarities in his case that were not considered.
In the court document obtained by People Magazine, he stated his trial “involved complex constitutional and evidentiary issues, particularly relating to legal rulings and strategic decisions made during the trial proceedings and errors in the admission of forensic evidence.”
While also acknowledging financial difficulties, Duggar expressed his belief that the prosecution did not fully disclose its evidence. He then added more reasons for a post-conviction review, citing the “broad publicity of the case, and intense scrutiny.”

Social media users reacted to the 37-year-old’s letter with suggestions that his update was a signal to Trump, who is now issuing pardons to convicts.
One person wrote, “Pretty sure Trump is planning to let this one go next, might even offer him a position in the government. He would fit right in. It’s like the Joker is running the country.” A second user added, “Trump pardon coming in 3…2… 1… All praise Orange Jesus!”
A third netizen indicated that the letter was addressed to the wrong authority and should be directed to the president. “Send a letter to Trump. He will get him out,” the fan advised. “Oh, boo hoo, don’t worry, Trump will probably pardon him next, for the right price,” read a similar remark.
Hours before Duggar’s update, POTUS officially pardoned Todd and Julie Chrisley, who were found guilty of bank fraud and tax evasion. As we previously reported, Trump directly called the couple’s daughter, Savannah, to inform her of the news. He said, “It’s a great thing because your parents are going to be free and clean. I don’t know them, but give them my regards and wish them a good life.”
Whether Trump would extend the same courtesy to Duggar, only time would tell.
