This is how you fight back.

Recently, there was a lot of chaos in Seattle as two sides faced each other in protests. One side was far-right conservatives who are also anti-LGBTQ+. The other side was made up of youth and other people who were against those whom they called fascists. For some reason, when the police came, they only arrested the side supportive of the LGBTQ+ community. Police didn’t go near the other protesters as if they didn’t even exist. With several arrests made on that day, some Seattle youth decided to fight back by throwing a punk show, which left citizens proud.

In one video documenting the show, you can see a group of young people dancing while someone is singing into a microphone. Several of those in the crowds had LGBTQ+ flags with them. Others had small Trans flags as well. Even two of the band members had flags on them. Along with the singing, one member shouted, “Every day is gay day. F**k the homophobia. Love each other.” The punk show went on for a while.

People Reacting to the Seattle Youth

Since a lot were exasperated about the arrests that took place, they found that the punk show was a great way to fight back against fascism. One person wrote, “Proud of these kids.” Another pointed out that this is a typical thing to see in Seattle. “The most Seattle s**t I’ve seen in a while,” they said. Several people kept showing how proud they were of the young rebels, as one also commented, “The kids might just be alright after all.” There was also one Redditor who wanted to see more punk shows take place. “Less classist posts. More impromptu punk shows with people wearing pride capes. That’s my politics and I’m sticking to them,” they said.

Aside from being proud, someone wanted to know the meaning behind the lyrics that were being said, since they weren’t clear. In a kind gesture, one person replied and offered the lyrics and their meaning. “‘I ain’t gonna work on Maggie’s farm no more’ It’s a Dylan song that Rage covered. Per wiki: The song can be seen as a wider commentary on societal structures and power dynamics, with “Maggie’s Farm” representing a system that exploits and controls. The lyrics hint at a struggle against forces that try to dictate one’s actions and expectations.” This kind of counter-protest is one way to fight back against fascism. They can’t take you away from singing. I hope.
