Petty Indiana Employer Harasses Female Worker for Having Short Hair: ‘This Is Where We Are as a State’

What an obnoxious boss

It’s hard to imagine offending someone with the length of your hair, yet such a trivial feature can ruffle a petty person’s feathers. That said, a short-haired woman who’s both cis and straight can’t catch a break at her workplace in Indiana for choosing to have a short haircut. “I guess you could call me a tomboy,” she declares, proud of her fashion choice. However, her employer thinks otherwise. “My boss told me right now is not the time to make waves and cut my hair short like Pink,” she says in a Reddit post.

“[He] never cared before but didn’t want complaints on bathroom usage with new political atmosphere,” the Indiana employee continued in her post. It’s hard not to understand what she means, as some short-haired women’s gender is being judged and even challenged. Bigotry and transphobia in the States is now so intense that even girls who prefer shorter, tomboy hair can’t go about their lives in peace. “This is where we are as a state,” she supposes.

A top commenter and half a thousand upvoters believe the worker should get what her boss said “in writing” or somehow recorded. That way, she would have evidence in case there was a case or a possible lawsuit for being harassed or discriminated against at work. Another user chimes in, talking about his experience as a man with long hair: “As a straight white male with long hair that goes below my shoulders, I get snarky remarks for the old heads at my work often.” For some bizarre reason, “people feel the need to voice their opinion on my looks,” he says.

The Indiana employee replied to the man, “Neither of us should have anyone commenting on our looks. Wish they would only care if we could do the job.” And that’s exactly how things should be. As long as someone is following the proper appearance or dress code requirements for their workplace, there is no reason for any coworker or supervisor to comment on their appearance. “You should ask your boss if you can dictate what his appearance should be?” remarks a user.

Even though many encourage the woman to “find a new boss” or take a retaliating swing back at him, unfortunately, it’s not that easy. Maintaining your job is important, and moving out of state can be out of the question. Still, no one should have to put up with such obnoxious individuals just because they support the wrong political party or views. Hopefully, things will turn around soon once people get their heads on straight again and vote for a better leader.
